The food was delicious! The meat was smoked in-house and the portions were perfect. We shared pulled pork nachos which were delicious! The smoked wings were awesome and the sauces on the side were creative and tasty. But the ribs were truly the highlight… tender, cooked perfectly and just the right sauce. We will definitely return!
I believe many people over the internet who rate food are not your average person….. I saw some reviews on this place as I was looking up the phone number to place an order and was shocked to see such a low rating… I go here about once every two weeks ever since I have found out about the place. I have been to many rib fests all over Ontario (many of which were downtown Ottawa) and have literally tried ribs from every single contestant… I would say these ribs are for sure in the top 3 that I have tried (adding some Alabama heat to the ribs really is to die for), their wings also are much better than wild wing considering I worked there for a number of years, ages ago.
Ordered delivery from them on a Sunday afternoon. My house is 10 Km from the restaurant (15 mins according to Google Maps). They called me back and said I was too far away to deliver. Really? I will never go there in person now for sure!
Pulled pork, ribs & wings are good. Wasn’t a fan of the brisket, very tough. Have gotten takeout there 3 times, never an issue, quick service, but last time they didn’t included cornbread, whether it was an oversight or didn’t have any ready, I’m not sure. Didn’t realize till I was home.
Absolutely awsome Memphis style bbq! You get a ton of food for the price. Staff is very friendly. The pulled pork was great and the beef ribs were fantastic. Smoked wings were ok, will be trying the fried next time to compare. Take out is fast. Highly recommend this place!
I was excited to finally have a rib joint in the neighbourhood but it unfortunately is a big disappointment. The meat could use longer cooking at a lower temperature to make it tender instead of tough. It would also be great to have Texas style BBQ (dry rub instead of smothered in sauce). We tried it twice to give it the benefit of doubt but were let down both times.
Ribs:Out of all the ribs I’ve had in Ottawa this place ranks second or third in my books. The only place I enjoy more for the taste are the Mill Street Brewpub’s which they only offer once a week on their rib night. Mill St. can be difficult to get to, so Big Bone wins out for ease of access and also having ribs on demand. Big Bone also has a good deal for a rib/wing/side combo on Monday, and we’ve made it a once monthly routine.Wings:I like Big Bone’s wings even better than their ribs, and their Kansas BBQ sauce is the exact flavor I crave. This is my go-to place for wings now. I do not care for Wild Wing’s wings and Local Heroes hasn’t been up to par for ages.Sides:The coleslaw is okay but nothing special. Their fries have an interesting texture: crunchy on outside and soft on the inside, almost as if they are breaded. I like the fries enough but prefer getting a salad instead of fries – the salads are large but basic – I have no problem with that. My spouse really likes their beans… to my detriment.
