This is my second time going to this place. The first time was for dinner and the experience was mediocre. The food portion was small and the food was nothing special. Today, I went in for lunch after my dad’s recommendation and I must say he was right. The lunch platter is what he suggested, which offers 4 dishes in one. I really enjoyed trying different flavours without having to order multiple dishes. The spring roll was crunchy, the curry was hearty, the stir fry was sort of sweet which was a new experience for me, and the mango salad was refreshing.
I will never go back again! Tonight I ordered KAOW OB SUPPAROD with no meat. I asked for 5 star hot with thai peepers. I show up thew women charges me $17 even with no meat for some rice with pineapple b/c she said well normally we add tofu or more veggies. I did not ask for eighter and said no tofu. ( I have never been charged more then $9 -$12 for this dish any other place) – hell they did not even serve it in the pineapple so even cheeper. Anyhow I get it home – there are pees, cauliflower, carrots broccoli, corn( sweet and baby), 2 piece of cabbage, sweet red peppers ( not thai ) and its not even that hot. For thous of you who don’t know the veggies are not normal or ethnic to use at all. Western crap! Oh and about 5 cashews…. I would have rather eaten at subway lol.
Lunch review: LOOOVE THE COMBO!!! Always so flavourful and such big portion. Definitely the winner of this restaurant.Dinner review: Great decor but food is so-so.. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great! The decor was just stunning! However the food portion was small and the food was not the best. The food was too creamy and too sweet. It almost felt like it should be dessert dishes.
Small Portion Size. We went as a family for the first time recently and we were excited due to the good reviews. There was a wide variety of food but we found the portion size to be too small. Filler vegetables took up more than 50% of dish. For $15, we expected more out of their food. Also, we wish each dish included a small dollop of rice since it goes so well with curry. It’s kind of a rip off to pay ~$8 extra for a few bowl of rice.
Lunch Combo. The lunch combos are the best! You can try a lot at the same time. One curry, stir fry, mango salad and vegetable spring roll! It is simply amazing 🙂
Best Thai food in the west end by far. The flavours are intense and authentic. The green curry is delicious, just the right amount of sweet and spicy. I also had the pad siew, which was really good. My new go-to place for Thai!
Nice Suprise. After trying out most of the Thai place from downtown to the west end I as glad I tried Baan Thai. The location is a little out of the, not many prime spots to choose form in Kanata, but the food was great. I have had take-out twice just to be sure it was as good as I thought. I used to drive around to get Thai but now i have friends that drive into Kanata for it.I had the Pad Thai and Panang Beef. Both great with higher quality ingredients than I expected. The beef dish was a little on the small side but it was good quality. The rice was as good as anywhere else. With the quality of Thai food in the west end I think this spot shines. It is a little pricier but it definitely comes out in the quality of the food.Certainly glad I tried it as it is now what I recommend to anyone thinking of driving downtown to get the real stuff.
