Forgot my brunch!!!! Few friends and I were there…. They enjoyed the buffet and I ordered from the menu….. Was gratis but the moment was ruined, I ate alone – long after my companions were gone.

On the fence.. Not sure about this one. The food was good but service is sloppy. We were surrounded by un-bussed tables, our server messed up my partner’s order and the overall atmosphere was less than enthusiastic or really present. We got the feeling that our server had been doing her job forever and was on auto-pilot. Not the worst place by far but would one want to eat there? Again… not sure. I will say my eggs Benedict was delicious. The eggs were perfectly cooked (medium) and the hash browns were the best I’d had in a long time. Were it not for the mistake (wrong breakfast meat delivered) my partner would have been perfectly content with his meal. The fault here is completely with the front end of the restaurant, obviously, so whether you go or not depends on what part of the restaurant experience you care about the most. Food or service. Pity that Dox only has one part down.
We dined at dox on march 16 2013 for the first time. There were a table of 6 of us. Items ordered were the 8 oz strip loin medium with mushrooms and garlic mashed, 2 asiago and portobello stuffed chicken with mashed, prosciutto wrapped chicken with garlic mashed, fettuccine with shrimp and beef baron sandwich with fries. French onion soup to start and 2 calamari orders. There were approximately 10 people total including us in the restaurant and we waited 30 minutes for our starters. The calamari was very small and excessive amounts of batter with the dip being miracle whip with some paprika added into it, nowhere near worth the 12.00 they were charging for it. French onion soup was hot but nothing special and unique to remember it by. The fettuccine was severely undercooked to the point where the noodles were still stuck together and also stuck to the bottom of the plate, Not much sauce at all. No salt or pepper either. Both orders of Asiago chicken were anything but flavourful. Says on the menu it is stuffed but all it is, is mushrooms and cheese sitting on top of the over cooked chicken, it was not stuffed as they claim it to be. The mashed potatoes were still crystallized as though they were not fully cooked or mixed with any cream, milk or butter to give somewhat of a desirable flavour or texture. beef sandwich had no flavour and was slightly cold. They delivered all f our meals except for the prosciutto chicken which they said the chef mistaken it as the pesto linguini so they said it would be ready in less than 5 minutes. We waited 25 minutes for the prosciutto chicken and it was so dry and over cooked that our guest couldn’t even eat it, the same thing was said about her mash potatoes as it was by the two who had the asiago chicken, lack of flavour and undesirable texture. The 8 oz strip loin was ordered medium but was reduced well done and 1/4 of the steak was fat, it was definitely not 8oz, much closer to 5 oz. for dessert the banana Rama split was ordered and was nothing short of disappointment, it was nothing special by no means and was by far not anything memorable, simply plain old vanilla ice cream with some bagged strawberries and sauce with a frozen banana cut up on it. This was an embarrassment on my be half to bring my friends here who were travelling from Borden, Newfoundland and British Columbia to introduce them to the restaurants of Kingston by bringing them here and having them be so disappointed in the quality, presentation and taste of the food. I would not recommended this restaurant to anyone and would certainly not Return either. Our server was friendly until we told him after we paid our bill of what we thought about the food and he simply snarked at our remarks and gave us an uninterested look. This food is a large disappointment to what should qualify as a suggestion to Kingston cuisine. I can understand why there were only a handful of people in the restaurant at 630pm and they had no wait time for a table of 6 compared to almost every other restaurant in downtown Kingston. Our bill in total cake to over 230.00, save your money and go somewhere else, such as McDonald’s where you will get better quality food than you would here any day or time of the week.
