A friend and I were passing through Kingston and were checking out bars to visit for the night. We heard from a friend that The Grad Club was a solid spot with good food and had a concert that night, so we decided to walk the 20 minutes from our hotel downtown to the venue. However, when we tried to get into the bar we were told by the employee at the door that they were not accepting any more people for the night. Since the bar wasn’t near capacity we figured it must be because we had to pay $10 to see the bands, but the employee did not even accept this. He simply told us to leave and gave absolutely no reason as to why. We had not begun drinking yet either so that couldn’t have factored into his decision.I cannot fathom how a bar turns people away at 11 at night, and this is the first time I’ve ever seen this. It certainly put a damper on our night and I would caution people from visiting this location, as I’ve heard their staff have a tendency to do this when they want to go home early.
You know, the food isn’t necessarily the greatest (not that it’s bad), but something about it is just so nice and homey and the beers that they serve are so darn tasty (plus a grad student discount) that I can’t help but to keep coming back.
