I grew up just around the corner from Fred’s B&G, and have been many times over too many years I’d care to mention. They renovated about a year or so ago, so the place looks better than it once did – and it is about time as the old decor made it look like someones parents’ outdated basement – that’s not a good thing. For the good: the wings are pretty good tasting – unhealthy, but good. The fries are golden and crisp. For the bad: the calamari – apparently the ‘best in Mississauga’ is chewy/rubbery, and drowned in garlic. Obviously those that claim it to be the best haven’t had calamari the way it is supposed to be made with the correct texture, and they obviously love garlic. The men’s bathroom is gross, and I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen it reasonably clean. All this being said, the one thing that really bothers me is somehow they can’t seem to properly clean their glasses. I have been going there for at least 20 years (as my friends insist on making it their neighborhood bar) and I can easily count on one hand the times that I’ve had a clean glass to drink from. Seriously.I rarely go to Fred’s now, instead opting to not see my friends, or see them at other venues or gatherings. When I do go, I make sure I order a bottle of beer – I’m over the dirty glasses.
Ive been to Freds a couple of times ages ago but not since they renovated until the other night. It looks incredible from what I remembered many years ago. TVs everywhere, new dcor, a huge bar area to sit around. It was really nice that they catered to what we wanted to watch and tried to ensure the tvs around us were on what we wanted. It was really busy for a Tuesday night and many were coming just for a drink and others for dinner with their families, mostly locals. I can see why they call it the Mississauga version of Cheers. Their wings are really good as well as their chipotle wrap and pizza! Definitely a local gem to check out if youre in the area and also want to catchthe game.
Taking my business elsewhere — this place is a joke!. I have been visiting this establishment for a number of years with a group of friends and a sports team. I will now be looking for another establishment to visit. There are a number of issues with Fred’s – from the new reno, noise factor, staff and food. The new reno has a new open concept which causes a noise factor that is deafening like you were at a night club and have to yell at your company to have a conversation. This is also definitely not an establishment for a family. The patrons are consistently dishing out profanity regardless of any women or teenagers present. The bartenders and waitress are very unfriendly–they all look like they hate their jobs. The only ones they seem to be friendly to are to the patrons that frequent daily and spend their entire paycheck on beer and tips. The food is also hit and miss. There is no consistency with the food and it appears that they are now charging double for the same food item and even putting less on the plate. I guess they have to make their money somehow to pay for their new reno.I can recall a few months ago bringing in my sports team for wings and beer– tab was over $300 and when I asked for an espresso they had the nerve to charge me for it….you definitely will never get anything free at this place…not even any extra dipping sauce for your wings. The only good thing they are good for is a cold beer which I can pick up at the Beer Store and save tipping any miserable staff. So good bye to Fred’s whom has lost me as a customer and I will be most definitely telling my friends and family to go elsewhere.
Best bar mississauga. It was always a warm place to eat good food and have fun watching sports with the reno it’s even better looks upscale with the same familiar faces that’s why Freds is always a special place to come. Grilled calamari to die for!
I’ve been to a lot of restaurants in my days, but Fred’s blows all of these other places out of the ball park. Not only is the food amazing but so is the service. I’ve been there a hand full of times and every time I walk in my beer is sitting on the bar waiting for me……and it’s cold. Kathryn is so on point AND accommodating. Everytime she asks me if I’m eatting and regardless..hands me a menu. I always order the grilled calamari because it’s absolutely amazing! I recommend this bar to all my friends and family. What a great place to hang out any day of the week! Thanks for being the best neighbourhood bar! Keep it up, you guys are the best!-Paul
