Been here on two occasions: once to Marienbad for a date and then another time to Chaucer’s for drinks with friends. Both experiences were positive overall. Good ambiance and good food/drinks. Staff was generally friendly as well. I enjoyed the calamari (I think that was from Marienbad) and the Goulash and Schnitzel (from Chaucer’s).
This is an old world European restaurant that has been open for over 40 years. Comfy surroundings with a gas fireplace to warm your winter dining. Casual attire okay. Signature dishes that we alternate with include their classic Goulash, Chicken Paprikash, a variety of Schnitzels and Steak Tartare. Service is pleasant and timely. Hors d’oevres are varied and plentiful. Price a bit above average but quality is worth it. Have returned several times.

New fav restaurant!. I have been here a couple of times and every time was such a great experience!! The staff were very polite, the food was excellent!! I will be making this my new fav restaurant for sure. And such a beautiful atmosphere inside the dining area. I tell all my friends they should try it 🙂
Excellent experience. I have visited this place several times, and have yet to have a bad experience. Most recently, I came with a friend for the Londonlicious, and was very much surprised that neither the food nor the service suffered even though we got the prix fixe menu (unlike some other restaurant *cough* black trumpet *cough*). For Londonlicious, I got the goulash soup, the Schnitzel, and finished off with the strudel. The beef in the goulash was very tender, and the soup was very flavourful, although a tad too salty. The Schnitzel was well done and delicious as expected. The strudel was not spectacular, but still very much appreciated for dessert. My friend got the Chicken and Chorizo Rotini, which she said was excellent as well.On a previous visit, I got the Marienbad platter, which had a sample of different meats. That was a great choice as I had no idea what most of the items were before that!Their bread rolls were well baked, and very fluffy, served with whipped butter. The decor was very warm and homey. There is also an enclosed courtyard like area where larger groups can dine.I don’t have anything negative to say about this restaurant!
Bad food. Bad service. While I was at first not pleased that the beer I ordered was empty and keg took 20 minutes to change, the mushroom penne I ordered was more like the soup of the day as it was swimming in oil. The cheese on top of the pasta was congealed and it was barely edible. The only positive thing I will say is that the waitress was kind enough to not make me pay for my oil-laden pasta. The other two people I was with for lunch also did not enjoy their meals (the applewood cheddar burger, was literally cheddar cheese with apples) and the warm spinach salad that was again soaked in liquid I.e. the dressing. I will not be returning to this place for the food. I think the ambiance is misrepresented by the inexperienced cooking staff. MarienBAD!
