I hope the desserts are better as I love the place in Toronto but after a few sips I have to say the absolute worst coffee ever!! What an insult to a Portuguese place to serve such a terrible cappuccino!! Truly awful. I may edit this review once I try the desserts.Update – raised my rating from 1.5 as the tarts were quite nice (not as great as I’ve had in the past but good enough). Coffee was the huge disappointment.
BEST DESSERTS IN TOWN! Lunch is very reasonably priced and you HAVE to get dessert when you’re there. The HUGE display of cakes and pastries will have you picking out your dessert the second you walk in. 5 out of 5! AMAZING.
Nova Era has the blast-from-the-past old-world-European entity feel to it, and I mean it in a good way (Many times people have the misleading nostalgic ‘memory’ of the good ol’ days while in reality those were not accurate and really were the opposite – Psychology 101, anyone? Well, this one is real; real good, that is). Many things they have casually lie behind their counter are really invoking past memory for me. Real freaky!I think the bakers are doing great job. Keep up the great job! I say, give’em a chance! If you ever try to stop by over the weekend, then, good luck in finding parking spot!
Holy Harness Racing is this a good place! Located in a small strip plaza on Egerton Street just South east of the Fairgrounds, this place is a can’t miss bakery. Bright fresh interior with a smattering of tables for those wanting to eat in. Staff was courteous and helpful. Ordered to take out.We ordered the chicken Club and Chicken Breast sandwiches. Although this type of sandwich is a popular restaurant item this tasted a little special as it was served on fresh baked Portuguese buns.We ordered a variety of desserts including the fresh and yummy cannoli and both the orange and red bean tarts. These were both absolutely delicious and would highly recommend. There were so many other delicious looking menu items and pastries that I vowed to return. Prices pretty reasonable. Have to tell everyone as you probably would not find it by chance.
If you like Latin pastries then this is the place to go! It’s really out of the way in the Western Fair District but they have low prices for high quality breads and sweets so it’s worth a trip if you’re craving anything sweet-egg related. I’m not kidding, they’ve got sweet egg Mille-feuille, donuts, buns, rolls, tarts, and even sweet egg palmiers (those are brilliant by the way, you need to try one)! Their sandwiches are also very filling although a bit on the basic side. The only thing I wouldn’t order would be their tarts. I found them to be dry and the tart shell itself is really thin and tasteless. All their bigger pastries though are fantastic, especially their huge chocolate croissants! 18carrotgold.com
This place is a great spot for a quick lunch and pastries. Whenever I would take a trip down to London, I would have family & coworkers asking me to bring them back their Pasteis De Nata, their version of mille feuille, and fresh bread.Their sandwiches with grilled chicken or pork are awesome as well.Their stuff is always fresh, and the owners are awesome people. The place is also absolutely nuts around the holidays, too. You have to place your orders well in advance if you want to have any hope of getting them.I’d highly recommend this place.
