I made the mistake of getting the Shawarma maybe a decade ago, and that didn’t go well. Recently I decided to try them again and wow, fantastic Kebabs! They still have shawarma, but it’s hidden on the back page of the menu. Avoid it, and go with the Kebabs. I’m hooked on the Salari combo, which gives you beef (hamburger) and chicken kebabs on a bed of saffron rice (or salad). Delicious.
Partner and I have gone here several times for lunch and would have no problem returning. The restaurant sits in a strip plaza under the long shadow of Canada’s first McDonalds outlet.The restaurant interior is simple with a kind of diner look. Let me say first that most Persian food I have had was not heavily seasoned and that is why you are provided with seasoning. We had the kabobs on rice beds, lemon soup, and with side Caesar salads. Both meals were hot and tasty and served quickly. It’s not gourmet but healthier than McDonalds and worth the visit.
I’ve been to this place twice, once because I was curious of the cuisine. I was disappointed. But not having learned my lesson, went in there for a second time, as I’m a sucker for punishment. I have sampled all kinds of ethnic food. I don’t get this food. The food is bland beyond explanation. I even tried it in Sri Lanka at Shiraz (separate review done a couple of years ago), but even they fell through. The only conclusion I can come to is, these people eat tasteless bland food. Visit if you like to mention that you’ve sampled Persian food. But don’t go if you are hungry and looking for a satisfying meal.
