Asian Alley is a cute little blink-and-you’ll-miss-it joint, next to hipster mecca, Zak’s Diner, in the heart of the Byward Market.Service was excellent as was their food. The menu is an Asian fusion with Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Korean options. The offerings are not dissimilar from what you’d find at other Asian restaurants in the city though there was a notable modern twist, from a colorful slaw side salad to a tangymarinade update on the Grilled Chicken with Rice.I was somewhat disappointed with the pricing of the Pork & Chicken Spring Rolls at $7.95 for only two somewhat small rolls, split in half. They were certainly tasty, though at almost $4 a roll it didn’t seem worth it. kelseysays.com
The atmosphere is great and they have a pretty cool menu. That being said, the food took quite a while to prepare and what you get for the price leaves a little to be desired, even for the usually pricey Market.
The food at Asian Alley is really good, however the prices are a little high and it takes a while to get your food once you order. It is still worth going here for food it’s just not a place to go if you are in a hurry
Asian Alley – Worth A Second TryI was on a lunch break during a training and I needed something quick and yummy in the market. I am a sucker for anything Asian so I stopped into Asian Alley. I did not have much time, so I went the Shrimp Spring rolls. They were made fresh and were sizzling. I was not awed by the flavour (I have had tastier spring rolls) but they were satisfying. It would not be right for me to not mention the time and effort that went into the dcore. One wall has an amazing painters mural with bright colours, whimsical knick knacks and eclectic furniture. It’s a delight for the senses. I have heard amazing things about their Pho, so it looks like I need to head back for another round.
Quickly became one of our favourite go-to restaurants after it opened. Delicious, fresh food, but also fast and inexpensive with friendly service. Owner is friendly and charming.
Undoubtably the best pho place in the Ottawa. Everything is perfect. The braised veal is particularly amazing. They are working on getting a liquor license, hopefully they can get some quality brews.
Excellent food and friendly service. I’ve been there 3 times now for lunch since it has opened. Each time I loved my meal and so did my friends. The braised veal flank was extremely fresh and organic and the broth alone is remarkable. I’ve been eating pho type meals all over the city, mainly on Somerset St, for years and Asian Alley has wowed me.The owner is also working in the kitchen (at least when I have been) which is always a good sign. Anyhow I’m going there for lunch today. The braised veal flank is a must try.
