I visited this place last visit to Ottawa in 2006 when they’d just opened and were the closest thing to a decent place for espresso in a city with an immature, horrible coffee scene. Fast forward to June 2015: similarly-sized Calgary, my home, has more than 30 third-wave coffeehouses and while Ottawa is stlll behind the curve it has some gems, especially Ministry of Coffee, and I Deal still serves espresso with pre-ground beans that have staled in the doser of their ancient, filthy grinders. This is a tragedy- they could have evolved and chose not to. My espresso was horrible.

Best Americano and cappuccino in Ottawa. I have tried all the best coffee shops in Ottawa and none of them come even close to I Deal Coffee’s Americano and cappuccino. It has a wonderful bold taste. It’s far enough from me but I make the detour almost every weekend. They also have some gluten-free baked goods. I tried the Americano at the Ministry of Coffee today, took one sip, dumped it outside and went to get one at I Deal Coffee instead!
