2019/04/09For some reason I was in the mood for Thai food this evening, and I found Khao Thai in the Byward Market neighbourhood. This is a medium sized restaurant with seating for about 70. It was less than half full before 6:30 and was almost an hour later. I started out with a bowl of Sam Mit Nhee Taley from the soup menu. Two plump shrimp, scallops, and a type of seafood that I did not recognize. It had a consistency of squid, but was shaped as a tube with many protrusions from the tube. The broth was full of flavour and had quite a kick, even though I requested medium spice. One of my pet peeves: the shrimp were served with tail on, which in a soup really doesnt make sense. My main dish was the Pad Thai with Shrimp; again with the tail on. Nice flavours, but perhaps the noodles were a bit overdone, in my opinion. Service was pleasant and friendly. My server checked in me a few times.
