Simply the best Italian Ive ever had, its a little slice of wonderful. The ambient draws you straight to Italy and the food takes it to a whole other level. Shout out to the chef. Take the plunge, you wont regret it!
FOOD:I had come here on a Wednesday afternoon at around 3:00 pm. I was hoping to grab something from the kitchen however, it had closed right before I arrived. I then decided to get a Panino (Sandwich), which was $6.20. There was only one type of bread available (which was the long, white bun), and a multitude of cold cuts, cheeses, and toppings to choose from. In terms of the cold cuts, I had settled on Mortadella and Genoa Salami (Mild), while for the cheese, I had settled on Provolone. In terms of the toppings, I chose Mayonnaise, Lettuce, and Tomato. I was impressed with the large array of items available for the sandwiches however, I was disappointed that they wouldn’t warm it up for me since I love having my sandwiches crispy (I find they taste better). In terms of the taste of the sandwich itself, I found that there was a lot of cheese, and not enough cold cuts. The taste was pretty good though, and the bread was definitely fresh. It was a large sandwich, and kept me full (I only ate half as it was too large for me). I would have liked if there were more cold cuts inside of the sandwich however, and if it were warmed-up in the oven. ATMOSPHERE:This was a large shop that sold a lot of Italian products, which was impressive as many of these products I’ve never seen elsewhere. It was very busy, and there was no where to sit in terms of the sandwich ordering area. I also found it difficult to get-around as the aisles were very narrow and people were all-over the place. Overall though, it definitely felt like an Italian store; even the music was Italian!SERVICE:When I had placed my order for the sandwich, there was a kind, younger gentleman behind the counter that took my order. He placed my order quickly, and answered the few questions that I had regarding the order. I then had to pay for the sandwich at the front cashier, which was a bit of a hassle as there was a small line-up and it was crowded. It would have been easier if we could have paid at the back where I had ordered my sandwich instead of paying at the front.COST:1 Panino (Sandwich): $6.20 + 1 Bottle Of Water: $0.99 = $8.13 (Taxes Included)WOULD YOU RETURN?Although the sandwich was mostly good, I wasn’t too impressed with the atmosphere and the procedure in paying for the sandwich. I may return however, would get something else.
Great grocery store with plenty of Italian imported products. When I heard they served sandwiches to-go and other goodies, it sounded like a good place to stop in for a quick bite. I was not impressed by the lack of attention when I ordered my sandwich. I don’t like mayo. I never asked for mayo, but I got – you guessed it – mayo! I asked for mustard only. Ruined a perfectly good sandwich. And to be honest, not worth $7 for such a basic sandwich.
Amazing sandwich for an amazing price. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for something quick and delicious. Service was great as well!
There’s really not much to say when it comes to reviewing a place like Bottega Nicastro thus why I am keeping this review simple. The variety of Italian products, cheese, cold cuts, coffee, olive oil, drinks and goodies is simply fabulous. Best Italian grocer in town.Their fresh made paninis, Illy coffee and meals, in the dine-in kitchen, are superb. The prices are great and they are surprisingly much lower than chain grocers in the area. Not much to say except – FANTASTIC PLACE.
They have amazing sandwiches. The bread is always fresh and so are the rest of the ingredients! Definitelyasolid sandwich place in Ottawa andone more thing – they also pile on the meat so the sandwiches are huge! Prices have increased to about 6.50 for a sandwich.
Found out about this place accidentally as I was visiting Ottawa and wanted to buy a few gourmet items from the shop, but so glad I did! It’s a tiny space, but the chefs and server were sociable and helpful. I sat at the kitchen’s bar being solo and had a rucola salad for lunch with a glass of their feature white wine. Service was excellent and the salad was excellent and fairly priced at $9. It was essentially an upscale BLT with lemon and EVOO for dressing, but that is right up my alley! If it needed anything, perhaps a bit more pepper would have made it perfect. I finished lunch with their tiramisu which was also delicious. The only disappointment was my espresso – it tasted great, but my espresso cup had almost nothing in it. I wondered if it was spilled on the way over (or if they thought I ordered a ristretto?), but the saucer was clean. Despite that, I’d definitely go back.
