One of the few non-hipster establishments left where a girl can go after she dresses up and have fun. Love the Chandeliers. Amazing salads. One of the few non-hipster elegant attractive places in such an elegant location. Best place for a girl’s night out. Very gorgeous interiors, one of the most beautiful restaurants in Ottawa
Although there is a decent selection of cocktails, I’ve found that the drinks are mostly ice with a dash of cocktail served with a big bill. The venue had a very unique look to it and it’s in a fantastic location but there are many other establishments in the market that are worth checking out.
We were here for a private party. The staff was very attentive. The appetizers were very tasty and I looked forward to them being repeated. I liked the decor.
Excellent signature cocktail selection! Definitely the place to go of you’re looking to experiment with some drinks. Unfortunately, the last time I visited we waited almost an hour for a plate of perogies and when it arrived, it was already cold. Staff was friendly and apologetic, but not sure if I’ll be ordering from their food menu again when I return.
Seen both positive and negative reviews for MTR, but this review is based purely on my own one-time experience. The restaurant has a really nice interior, but also a nice little patio that backs onto the Byward Market courtyard. The menu had a nice mixture of Russian staples (borscht, flights of vodka, Russian beer etc) and interesting twists. Sandwiches and salads are in the low teens, cocktails are $11-12, and they have a pretty substantial sampling of teas. I ordered a glass of red sangria ($7.50) which was nice. Had a grilled veggie wrap that definitely surprised me – I’m used to getting some sort of balsamic combination of peppers and zucchini, but this wrap came with sweet potato, goat cheese, beets, and pickled veggies. It was delicious. Service was decent.
We came here to kick-start a bachelorette, and if you don’t feel like reading further, just know that instead of bar-hopping, we should have just stayed here. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time! The space is classy and was bustling when we rolled in around 1030. They had a lovely banquette at the back set aside for us, but the bride wasn’t the wallflower type, so they accommodated our request to be moved into the action around the main bar with no fuss. I’d say the crowd was mostly late twenties to mid-thirties, well-dressed and courteous, and a nice mix of characters. The music was dance lounge, loud, but you could hear what the person you were talking with was saying, which I appreciate. The girls serving are super- hot if that’s your thing, but also friendly and helpful, and the bartenders were fast and, later, patient ; PAround midnight some kind soul whipped up a bunch of different appetizers and the servers brought them out for all… I tasted two of four and they were delicious! Will definitely have to come back and chill on the courtyard patio for a bite to eat.
Came here for a late lunch and the place was pretty quiet. Do not come here if you’re in a hurry. I wanted to try the Chicken Kiev but they were out of chicken and the wait would be half hour or more. In retrospect I probably waited that long for what I ended up ordering anyway. It the MTR with prosciutto and artisan bread served with crunchy chips and a salad. Overall good meal and service was friendly as well. I’ll return one day to try the chicken Kiev. Love the decor!
