My boyfriend and I went on Canada day because I was craving pad Thai (lol) . Service was great, everyone was really nice and understanding when we said we just wanted an order of pad Thai. The food was really good, though I don’t really have anything to judge it against as the only other pad Thai I’ve had has been from Thai express. Large portions, fair prices, the only thing that was a bit lacking was decor. Overall, would come again and recommend to others.

Royal Thai was the first Thai restaurant I tried when I moved to Ottawa. Although it is not the best authentic Thai food and oily, it was tasty enough for me to come back and to become almost a regular customer. Staff members were nice and warm the first few years when it was located on Dalhousie/Murray. With time, I became more disappointed and disillusioned. Some staff members – the very same – have become dry AND rude, let alone the fact that none of them is Thai. The dim sum is inconsistent – depending on busy days or not, some dishes don’t look fresh as they taste saggy. Do I still want to come back? Nope. If you are not satisfied, please convey to the manager.

I went there with a couple of my cousins, as they were fond of Thai food, we had a great time. We liked everything we ordered or experimented with and were left with a good meal. So the next day, I take some of my friends for dinner again. The whole thing turned upside down, it was just a regular Wednesday, not really busy. But i don’t know how they still managed to ruin it for us. Every thing we ordered had something wrong in it, either it was too spicy or too oily, and the worse part was we ordered some of the dishes again from the previous night! On the other hand the staff was very rude when we decided not to leave any tip and definitely foul mouthed us! (They even brought the wrong food at our table at a point!)For the worst part and the saddest as well, we all had brutal stomach aches when we reached home, So you can see why i am writing this with such agony!

I think this restaurant needs a more defined direction. This is a Thai/Chinese restaurant and the menu is also split into 2 sections. It has a Thai influence in its decor though. We decided to go with the Thai menu and ordered the chicken pad Thai, the special crab fried rice and yellow chicken curry. The food came put pretty quickly which was nice. We enjoyed the food mostly, although the yellow curry reminded me more of a Malaysian/Indonesian style curry. The special crab fried rice had only very limited amount of crab meat in it but tasted ok. The service was almost non existing, and from the moment we walked in the restaurant to the moment we left, we didn’t get a single ‘hello or thank you’. Personally, I would much rather go to a place with OK food and good service than bad service and good food.

I came here with friends a couple of years ago and it made a lasting impression. I LOVED what I ordered (chicken coconut milk soup and a curry dish- I was also with a big group so I got to try a lot of dishes). If you go with a decent-sized group (7+) you sit at a big round table with a turnstile in the centre so you can easily where with friends if that’s what you’re into. It’s a great place in the market if you like Thai. Check it out next time you’re down there!

The restaurant has been in the area like 20 years and it is still there…so something must be right. I don’t know the Royal Thai part very much but it seems like Thai cuisine by Chinese is not so authentic, but Palais Imperial is my go to dim sum place in Ottawa. It is better than any dim sum in Ottawa Chinatown in my opinion. Good selection of items with friendly service.

Pretty decent place for Chinese and Thai food. The staff isn’t very friendly but they are quite active. The restaurant also offers take aways which is quite convenient. A nice place to grab food casually with friends. hangsfoodbook.wordpress.com
