2019/03/27After a full day of workshops at the client offices, I was in the mood for Indian food for dinner, and I found Shafali in the market neighbourhood. The restaurant was mostly empty before 6 pm. The decor is a mix of red chairs, yellow walls and purple doorways, with seating for about 40. I started out with an Onion Bhaji appetizer ($6). While it was tasty, the deep fried onion balls were a bit dry. The tamarind mango chutney was sweet and almost syropy, which did counter some of the bhaji dryness. For my main dish I chose the Butter Chicken ($17) and added some plain Naan ($4). The chicken came with Basmati Rice. The sauce was just right for me; very creamy and just enough heat. The chicken was tender enough to cut with the side of a fork. I liked the addition of a few slivered almonds for a little bit of crunch. The fresh Naan was a great vehicle for sopping up every last drop of the sauce. Service was pleasant and reasonably fast. I was in and out in less than an hour.
