this place was great about 15 yrs ago after a night of drinking. Now…..yikes. Asked for the 2x chicken/beef donair deal for $4.99. Yes it is cheap but why even offer it if you’re gunna service pigeon meat. The guy went to give us some pre-cut meat and not the one from the spit rotating grill behind him. Then he microwaved the sandwiches. Wow, terrible. You can’t fool me Shawarma Deluxe. You also can’t get away with calling yourself a shawarma place when you microwave food. Ridiculous. you figure you can just smear over-powering garlic paste over a sandwich and think people won’t notice the lack of freshness??? FAIL.
Went in for food, saw the man behind the counter at the cash, giving a customer his change. The man then looked at me and I assume asked me what I wanted, because he mumbled in unintelligible English. I made my order and he started grabbing the bread WITHOUT washing his hands. I asked him to wash his hands (really? This day in age? You shouldn’t have to ask) and he looked at me like he didn’t understand. After a couple of attempts to make myself understood I walked out. Seriously disgusting. You can do much better, go to Castle Shawarma on Rideau, it’s literally around the corner. Best shawarma in town. Super friendly guys who make you feel welcomed in their very clean restaurant.
The place has a good bargain. You can get 2 beef donairs for $5. The older gentleman who works there is friendly, and that is once you get to know him. He will greet you, and serve you a generous amount of meat, and condiments. The others who work there are quite skimpy, and only allow you to add 3 condiments. The odd thing is that when you watch a Youtube video about this restaurant, the same guys who put only 3 condiments on my beef donairs gave a Youtuber almost all the condiments. Overall, I do not recommend buying food there if the older gentleman is not working.
