The atmosphere was really fun. The fries were well cooked. I had the veggie deluxe. There was a little too much onion on it and caused the fries to get soggy. The staff weren’t rude but they didn’t seem happy to be there.
Disappointing Experience. Tried them twice before, closer to when the opened. They even came to campus to sell snack sizes. The poutine was DELICIOUS!Went to the restaurant, and seriously, i expect more for a $8 poutine. Cold food, cold gravy, didnt even melt the cheese. Gravy was just a gloup of jello it felt like. Not sure why we need to add sourcream right on top and make it even colder, instead of maybe giving it as a side. Potatoes were mushy. The chicken had clearly been in the freezer for a while. Dry, tasteless. Then the best part, the red peppers were RANCID! Inedible. I hate wasting food, so i just put the peppers aside and tried to enjoy the rest of the meal. But it all turned into a sloppy solid mess way too quickly. Maybe it was just an off day, i dont know. But you guys gotta step up your game for quality.I’ve had much better poutine for alot less money. Its not complicated, just a shame it was ruined with non-fresh ingredients.The cheese curds were delicious though!
Too Much Hype For a Bland Poutine. I heard so many great things about this place ever since I’ve been in Ottawa, so I decided to finally check it out. This place is overrated. Fries are limp and generic, sauce has no flavour and the cheese they use is a disaster. Sure, they have crazy toppings, but they messed up the basic. Not only is it bland, but it’s pricey too. Definitely too much hype and credit for this poutine.
Rude and Unprofessional. So came here for lunch and walked in to two staff having a lively conversation with a friend. Waited for over a min for them to wrap it up, when asked about a basic info was given a hurry up and order. I ordered and the chips were COLD. They had just grabbed them from the basket that was sitting there. No reheating or anything. Soon as i payed the animated conversation restarted. I am sorry but this is not a hangout. I am sorry with all the unique places to eat in down this is not worth my time or money.

I love Smokes but the employees make or break it. I’ve had some really awesome poutines from smokes and I’ve had some really bad poutines from Smokes. The last time I went to Smokes in Ottawa it took 20 minutes for my food to be prepared because the guy who was supposed to make it wasn’t in the kitchen!
Worse poutine ever. Tried Smoke’s for the first time at the Poutine Festival on Sparks Street. It was just awful…the curds were cold…leaning towards frozen, the gravy was tasteless, Took a few mouthfuls and threw it out….want my money back!! AWFUL…HUGE THUMBS DOWN
