  I’m really on the fence about Zaphods. I started going regularly over ten years ago when I was in College. Back then they played a lot of great music, and the drinks (especially the quarts) were at a great price. They’d always be playing Pulp, Bloc Party, Le Tigre, Death From Above, and other great music. A pinch of 90’s hip hop was the cherry on top for me. Times change, of course. I wouldn’t recommend this place for anyone looking for a bit of nostalgia. For a while before it’s sale to an employee, it has been changing its sound on Fridays and Saturdays. A lot more modern hip-hop, and less and less selection for classic sounds of Zaphods despite them still taking requests. The staff were once the friendliest, charming, and interesting people hands down for any nightclub in eastern Ontario. Now they aren’t so personable, save for the door and coat check attendants. Maybe it isn’t what people look for these days, but I remember at its busiest the staff taking the time to laugh and share stories with the patrons. Now, if you aren’t a regular in a particular clique, you can feel like little more than a cash dispenser for them.I’m sure kids love the place, especially all the bro culture dudes that swarm the place every Saturday night, but if you’re in your late twenties to early thirties and want to relive the Zaphods experience, you’ll be left short and disappointed.
