2029/05/05We were in Vaughan in the evening and we decided to have dinner at Taste of Hakka. This is a small, neat restaurant with seating for about 34. One interesting feature is the impressive mural of the Great Wall of China, taking up one entire wall. We started out with a regular sized bowl of Chicken Hot & Sour Soup ($5.70), which was enough for the two of us to have a small bowl each. There was a lot of good stuff in this soup: chicken, tofu, mushrooms, carrots, green onions. Although I could not describe why, this was one of the tastier hot & sour soups that I have had in a while. Then we moved on to two main dishes. The first was Bombay Chicken; chunks of tender dark meat, smothered in a savoury tandoori sauce ($12.98). For us this was an interesting and pleasant change of pace. The second dish was Beef with Snowpeas and Mushroom ($12.95). A simple stir fry with good flavours. Fresh mushrooms, snowpeas with a little crunch, and thinly sliced tender beef. Both the dishes came with steamed rice. Also, the portions were large enough that we had enough for one lunch the following day. Polite, quiet service.
