Century Palace is dim sum restaurant located near Warden and Steeles at the Metro Square Plaza. The place itself is located when you walk into the mall and towards the back. Much larger than anticipated, this place can sure house many larger groups and then some. It follows along the same lines as many dim sum restaurants where they gather around in a banquet hall and it’s all push cart (though you can order some specialty items and have them brought to you). There is also an interesting little cooking display in the front dining area where a little cook is seen making some dim sum items out in the open. Kind of cool.As far as the things we ordered, the food was decent but no dish was anywhere near top notch. The hargow (shrimp dumplings) were very good. The steamed skin holding the shrimp held together and didn’t break apart at all, which always is a good indicator of good hargow. The shrimp filling was large and meaty so no complaints there. The chicken feet fingers were good, but for being drowned in sauce, I thought the skin didn’t soak in enough flavor. We also nabbed some duck feet, but they were sauced the exact same way as chicken feet except the skin clung too tightly to the bones so it was like sucking on bones…. not the best dish. The beef honeycomb tripe was done well. I love when dim sum tripe is slightly chewy but still soft. The shrimp rice noodle was good, nothing spectacular. Rice noodle was thick and the shrimp pieces were fairly small. The spare ribs were meaty and not at all fatty, so it was a real treat to have on the table.I’m not always a big fan of push carts, tradition be damned. They don’t always get around to you in a timely manner, especially in a place this size, but Century Palace made it work. Century Palace does offer up a $2.40 early bird on weekend before 11am. The restaurant can get pretty packed after 11 am so you should make it a point to arrive before then. Plus, why not take full advantage of the early bird special? cheatdayeveryday.com
I came here with my family for dim sum for brunch on a Saturday. After a swift 10 mins wait, we had a table for five. This is maybe only a few remaining Chinese restaurants left that still have dim sum items on a cart and being pushed around the restaurant by servers. Of course the key is to understand Cantonese to know what you’re ordering : ) We ordered the shrimp dumplings, pork dumplings, marinated steamed chicken feet, egg tart, deep fried tofu/eggplant, steamed beef balls, beef ribs, and cotton chicken. The quality and quantity was fine and the level of consistency was high. One thing to watch out for is that the men’s and women’s washrooms are located side by side with the door opened. I went in to the women’s washroom by accident again! This was the second time, so embarrassing.
Dim Sum Luncheon. My family and I were looking for another great dim sum place and we tried this place. The service is non-existent. Ditto for the dim sum items. Skip this place unless you want to experience rude service and tasteless food.
First visit. Not bad but not great. Lobster dinner was huge. Service was non existent. Atmosphere needs work. 65%
Slow service. Service was pathetic, and honestly if u want to celebrate 2013 then head to this restaurant now cuz by the time all the food has been served it will be 2013. Service is so slow they make a kid with down syndrome look fast.
So so dim sum. This place had so so dim sum. I found everything a little lacking. The pork dumpling lack taste. Sticky rice was bland.
Consistent bad dimsum experience. Why bother when there are other places? I’ve never gone back even when other peers are going. I’ll just have fast food.
