2019/03/17Tao Canteen is a Hong Kong style diner offering breakfast, lunch and dinner, featuring mostly Chinese dishes, with some Thai choices as well. The restaurant has a combination of booths and round tables, and can seat more than 90 diners. When we arrived before 7 pm on a Sunday, the restaurant was less than half full. After looking over the extensive menu for a few mint, we picked a couple of dishes to share. The first one was Stir Fried Beef with Mushrooms ($9.95) and we added one Steamed Rice ($2). The beef was thinly sliced and nicely cooked; tender and no gristle. There were lots of fresh bottom mushrooms A tasty dish. Our second dish was Pad Thai with Chicken $(9.50). Lots of noodles, some chicken. We both felt that it could have used a bit more of whatever sauces would give it the traditional Pad Thai flavours. This dish was just okay. Service was friendly, polite and fast, and the prices were good too.
Food is decent. Lots of space in restaurant. Chilling place bc it’s one of the only cha chaan tangs in the further east area. Take out is fast and they are not stingy on their sauces.
Reasonably priced Hong Kong style food with a wide range of selection. Their lunch set hour is from 11-4:30, which is pretty good for those who prefer a late lunch.Stick with those HK style food and you won’t be disappointed. Note that if you like your noodles to be more springy and chewy, you would like to avoid ordering here.We like their comfort food selections in their afternoon tea menu, as well as the Fried lemongrass and onion chicken w/ rice.Plus their Milk tea is great, what else can we ask for?Breakfast: 8-11am; Lunch: 11am-4:30pm; Afternoon tea: 2:30-5:30pm; Dinner: 5:30-9:45pm munchnibble.wordpress.com
