We went here on a Tuesday afternoon just before the dinner rush. We learned our lesson when we tried to come in on a dinner rush with a large party. We couldnt be seated and there was a long line for the table wait. This time around, we got a table with no problem. Ambiance is really good granted that they just opened. Its very spacious, not crowded so it was very relaxed dining. The waitresses and waiters were very friendly and they serve patrons very fast and efficient. They were courteous for giving time to look at the menu and accommodating when we asked for utensils and water. The food even came in less than 15 minutes even if we had a big order for a party of eight. For our meal, we ordered some of the usual: Cantonese chow mein, Yeung Chow fried rice, Chinese corn soup, chicken wings for the kids and their house specialty, Lobster chow mein. The corn soup was very flavourful with big chunks of chicken and generous amount of corn. Its good to start off a meal. The yeung chow fried rice was a good portion that can be shared. Good taste and texture with a lot of ingredients. The Cantonese chow mein and lobster chow mein could have been better with a little more sauce and ingredients. The fried noodles were a little dry with the lack of sauce. They couldve put some more ingredients like the veggies, shrimp and meat. The lobster chow mein was better with a generous amount of lobster but still was a little dry. The chicken wings were big and cooked just enough crunchy on the outside but still moist and juicy inside without unnecessary breading to mask the flavour. It was a very pleasant dining experience with this restaurant and they can still improve with the food, hopefully. The staff was very efficient and friendly that the diners should not hesitate to ask for anything.
FOOD: We had come here on a Monday morning on New Years Day, at around 11:00 am. Luckily, the others in our party had come earlier to secure a spot as it was very crowded when we had arrived, and the restaurant had just opened. We had settled on the Chicken & Duck Congee ($7.99), the Rice Dough Fritter ($4.95), the Pickle Pork Vermicelli ($12.95), and the Deep-Fried Shrimp Wonton ($9.50). I found that the Chicken & Duck Congee was actually very tasty, with large pieces of both types of meat, and a few other fixings. I also enjoyed the small bottle of pepper that was placed on the table for the congee, which made it taste even better. The Rice Dough Fritters however were disappointing as they came lukewarm, and were all stacked on top of each other, which made it difficult to take one off without the others tumbling down. The dish that disappointed me the most was the Pickle Pork Vermicelli, which came in a large dish however, consisted mostly of noodles, with very few pieces of pork peppered throughout. Most of the dish was noodles, and some vegetables, with the pork scarcely found. I found this disappointing as we had paid so much, and basically only ate noodles. The Deep-Fried Shrimp Wonton were tasty however, there was hardly any dipping sauce for them, which made them taste a bit dry. I found that the food wasnt as good as I would have hoped, with most of it taking very long to arrive, and tasting lukewarm. Overall though, the price was good, which was why Im sure it was so crowded at that time. ATMOSPHERE: This restaurant was beyond packed, and made it difficult to truly enjoy as there were just too many people running here and there around us, with large plates of food at most times. The dcor of the restaurant was actually nice, especially the ceiling. It looked as though the individual who designed this building really put some thought into how it would look. The tables though were too close together, and made getting-in and out a challenge, especially with a small baby (there was absolutely no room for a baby carriage, let alone a high-chair). I found that it was also too loud, and too many people talking at once; it definitely wasnt the type of atmosphere that I found enjoyable. Also, getting out of this restaurant was insane, with people crowding the front entrance and doorway; we literally had to squeeze past people to get-out! SERVICE: When we had sat down, the menus were already on the table, with the menu boasting pages and pages of items, making it confusing to even pick something that we liked. I found the service to be much too slow, with us having to ask a random server that walked-by where our noodle dish was since it was taking too long. It was difficult to find someone to ask about something when the servers all looked to be in a hurry, and were all busy with other customers to serve. COST: 1 Chicken & Duck Congee ($7.99) + 1 Rice Dough Fritter ($4.95) + 1 Pickle Pork Vermicelli ($12.95) + 1 Deep-Fried Shrimp Wonton ($9.50): $35.39 + Tax = $39.99 WOULD YOU RETURN? No; I didnt like the food that much to return, and found that the atmosphere was a bit overwhelming for me.
