This is a very good place. We went on a Sunday afternoon with the kids. The place was not very busy. Upon entering it looks like a standard pub but just a little nicer. Several games going on. They have an extensive range of beers. But The food is fantastic. Not too many pub places have duck in the menu. The crispy dumplings are addictive. I had the rib and wings which are great and my wife’s burger was excellent. Next time I go I want to try the schnitzel. The menu is very unique and interesting and they have a kids menu too. I’m definitely coming back to this place.
FOOD:We had come here at 6:00 pm on a Saturday evening therefore, we had settled on the Dinner Menu. For my item, I had settled on the Wild Turkey Turkey Burger ($15.26), while my husband had settled on the 12 oz. Rib Eye Steak ($33.24), and our friend had settled on the Cowboy 18 Steak ($39.82). For drinks, our friend had decided on the Choose Your Own Lager ($7.84), which came with three glasses of different beers which were personally chosen by our friend on the drinks menu. The beers arrived first, and were each in small glasses on a wooden plank with three glass holes on it. The beers each tasted different, with a distinct flavour to them, boasting a certain type of uniqueness that is hard to find. After we had finished the beers, our meals arrived about twenty minutes from when we had ordered them. For the Wild Turkey Turkey Burger, my side included the Wedge-Cut Fries, which were large pieces of potatoes cut into wedges. For the Wild Turkey Turkey Burger, it contained goat cheese (which was amazing, although there didnt seem to be enough of it), a cranberry jam sauce, and pickled cucumbers on the side (I had asked for this as I didnt want them on the burger itself). The burger was a bit dry therefore, I had added some ketchup to it and it tasted much better. I found that the burger was well-cooked, and it was very large, which filled me up quickly. For the Wedge-Cut Fries, I found them to be undersalted therefore, I had to sprinkle quite a bit of salt on them to give them some flavour. They did taste delicious, especially when dipped in the ketchup which I had placed on my dish. I was also able to try some of our friendsbaked potato, which was covered in cheddar cheese and bacon bits, and tasted amazing! (I also ate the skin as well as it was delicious and edible, of course). My husband and friendssteaks were both delicious, each having had been cooked perfectly, one of the best steaks I had ever tasted. I did find the prices for the steaks to be a bit high, especially the Cowboy 18 Steak however, the taste was well-worth it.ATMOSPHERE:The reason for coming was because I had purchased a WagJag deal, which was $25 for $50 worth of food. We had made reservations online using OpenTable, which was quick and easy, allowing me to choose the time desired, and the number of people. When we walked-in, a kind woman greeted us, and showed us to a booth near the bar. We noticed that there werent too many people, which we found strange for a Saturday evening. The restaurant had a variety of pictures on the wall of movie stars and sports icons. It had the atmosphere of being in a bar as there were large televisions which were displaying sporting events around the bar, and even in the washroom. It was also quite loud, which was a bit too much at times however, tolerable as we were loud as well at times.SERVICE:Our server was Gigi, whom was the nicest server from the time we sat down, until the time we left. She took our orders diligently, answering all of the questions that we had regarding the items. She was also quite patient as wetook longer than usual to order since we werent sure which dishes would suit us best. She was kind and funny, asking us questions about our phones and making us feel comfortable. She was also very knowledgeable about the menu which was an added plus. I highly recommend Gigi as one of the best servers we have ever had!COST:Wild Turkey Turkey Burger ($15.26) + 12 oz. Rib Eye Steak ($33.24) + Cowboy 18 Steak ($39.82) + Choose Your Own Lager ($7.84) = $108.66 (Taxes Included)WOULD YOU RETURN?Most certainly! There were so many delicious items on the menu that we had wanted to try that we didnt get a chance to try. We found that this restaurant had a more relaxed atmosphere from any other establishment whichspecializes in steaks. We did find the prices to be a bit high however, the service and food definitely made up for that! Would HIGHLY recommend to anyone looking for a delicious alternative to the usual chain restaurants!
All you need to know that Rib Eye’s Jack is they have BEERs! Local Craft Beers that you can order samples and try out a few interesting ones. This is the second location where the original one located in Burlington. And of course aside from ALE, there is MEAT.Cowboy Rib Steak ($34.99)Ketucky Bastard ($32.99)Colossal Onion Rings ($9.69)So tender as their Craft Steaks are Canadian AAA aged 28 days for tenderness Whiskey dipped in Wild Turkey Bourbon, and flame grilled! The vibe here is casual and cozy. Service is attentive.Definitely worth coming here for a drink. And they have Cask Night Every Thursdays and drink specials every night.
Thursdays have a cask tap at 5pm. Good selection of local craft beers. The Ale house burger is a feast. Affordable for lunch and good to catch the game after work. Not too loud or crowded but still has a good vibe.
The most I’ve ever paid for a meal. To be fair the meal was a bonus, paid for by my wife’s company so we didn’t hold back. The menu is on the expensive side and we did order a lot…Beer and Cheese Soup, Spinach Artichoke Dip, Cowboy Rib Steak, Ale House Rib Eye, Sticky Toffee Banana Bread Pudding, several craft beers, large glass of wine, a double Oban whiskey and a alcoholic coffee of some sort. The restaurant is a mix of class, tvs and nostalgic movie posters and signs. The service was pretty good but not the excellent I thought a higher end place should offer. The soup was just what I felt a beer and cheese soup should be. The dip was superb and I highly recommend it. The steaks were cooked properly and very tender. My only complaint with my steak is it really needed a bigger bone. I ordered the rib steak mostly for the bone and it is my favorite steak but the tiny bone was very disappointing. I was told they try to have the rib steaks with a smaller bone so people don’t feel cheated having too much of the weight being bone but if you are going to offer it bone-in cater to those that will prefer the bone in. Much better taste imo. The steaks came with asparagus and a very terrible loaded potato. We ended with dessert and couldn’t finish it. It was good, we were just full. Rib Eye Jack’s has a great selection of craft beers so I took advantage. The Saturday night special was the second ounce of whiskey for a buck. After asking for a recommendation from our waiter who seemed pretty knowledgable I ended up with Oban 14 year which is $15. It was a nice treat. I was tempted to try the $25 Johnny Walker Blue but liked the waiter’s suggestion. Rib Eye Jack’s Has a lot to offer and I feel I missed out by not trying the selection of fresh oysters but that will wait until next time. So to recap the food was all good except the baked potato. The meal was pricey but only a bit over priced. The price will keep us from going back too soon but I expect to end up back on some future special occasion.
Bad service, bad food.. The only positive I can come up with is that our food was hot when it was served. However, the service was very slow, several of the orders at our table were wrong, and the food was awful. This is nothing more than over priced bad food.
Restaurant or Sports Bar?. I’m not sure what Jack intends to be. His upscale interior with an extensive and creative menu says restaurant while the abundance of overhead wide screen TVs says sports bar. Yet the TVs’ displaying various sports had their volume thankfully either off or inaudible. Subtle background music affords conversation which is appreciated. Sadly, restaurants without a clear focus seldom survive for long. Aggressive menu prices suggest Jack is serious about food quality. Yet value for money is disappointing with his typical sports bar’s lackadaisical cooking. Maybe he is just serious about profits, yet I thought profit was the reward for doing things right. Maybe in chain restaurants if you charge enough you can afford to apologize and comp for the mistakes and just plain awful items and still make money. Fortunately for Jack each of his servers we’ve encountered so far were friendly, attentive and competent, a unique strength. Yet a few appear to be refugees of Hooters in apparel two sizes too small, – more confusion. It will be interesting to see how Jack resolves his concept and operational challenges. We had great hopes for a quality minded contemporary Canadian restaurant as we sorely need one in this woeful area. Yet Jack seems to be following the path of his predecessors in this facility, Wakers and Moose. Both were unable to do what it takes to attract and keep customers for life. We’ll be back to see if Jack can attract a manager who can be fully engaged with this operation and customers turning it into the gem it could be.
