Terrible service, mediocre food. I’m from in town and my friends and I avoid this place at all costs. I know people who used to be chefs here and the stuff they did with the food was not very appetizing to say the least. The owner has absolutely not interpersonal skills and treats his customers like they are below him in some way. not worth your time or money
Save Your Gas Money. We booked a table at this place for ourselves and two other couples on St. Paddys Day. Word was it was a place worth the trip from our various locations for some dinner and drinks. On the positive side, parking is free. And the Irish Dancers were cute.Let me say Im usually overly forgiving when reviewing places, as I worked in the service industry a few years and know a little about the challenges. But this place was a disappointment. As expected the place was full at 6pm on St. Paddys Day but our table was waiting for us. We waited patiently for our drink order to be taken, but finally had to go to the bar and get it ourselves. Then we find out the daily special Corned beef and cabbage at $16.95(umm was this not a famine era staple due to its affordability?) was down to one order left. Anyway, we ordered various dishes, the curry, steak and kidney pie, fish and chips, and everyone was satisfied with the food. Our server was pleasant and had an adequate knowledge of the food and beer selection.Certainly the prices are inflated, any beer other than a macro lager is $7.25 and up per pint. So too with the menu, everything is at least $2 -$3 overpriced as compared to prices in London at similar places. And its not like you are gaining value for atmosphere. I mean shucks, how can you flop on St Paddys Day for goodness sake? The place emptied out pretty quick after the dinner crowd left and we figured the party would kick into gear. But with no entertainment and a barely audible sound system, it died pretty quick. The ultimate buzzkill was this guy who appeared to be manager/barkeeper. He looked seriously bummed to be hosting St. Paddys Day and his high point on the hospitality scale would be surly. At least try to look like you enjoy people.I suppose when you are the only option for the locals apart from driving 12 miles south, you will have a regular clientele. Like I said, save the gas money, its not worth the trip.
The King Edward Pub. This pub is a true find, we just love it. We were surprised to read the objections by some customers, we have been there for Friday lunch for about two months, we have never experienced any of the situations mentioned. We have seen couples enjoying the booths many times, perhaps the owner has remedied the problem? The fish and chips, served with mushy peas is one of my favourites and the fish has always been deep fried, never baked and is as good or better than any in the pubs in the area around London. I hope the owner reads these blogs because we want him to continue to produce excellent food and provide a unique British Pub in the London area.
One of the greatest pubs ever, I have eaten at The King Edward many many times and each and every time I took the utmost joyous food experience! I have a hard time enjoying other restaurants because almost everything on The King Edward’s menu is superb. I will defiantly be coming back soon!
We were very disappointed in the owner’s bad attitude. We were in on a sat afternoon , only one other table of 3 people but we were very begrudgingly given a booth, it seemed like they were reserving every table ! Food was just ok and overpriced for the portion sizes. Owner was rude to us from beginning…and to the server as he left. Will not be back and I will spread the word.
A surprising mix of traditional English pub food and very good cuisine in an unexpected place. Also, they have the best gourmet chicken wings (about 30 different flavours?) and usually have a nice little selection of beers including a traditional hand pumped cask. Awesome place for casual dinner or a couple pints in the evening.
