This is my go-to place in Milton.03 Nov, 2013Paninis and coffee. This place, under new ownership, has incredible paninis – chicken, brie, and pear or turkey and cranberry – and great desserts. It’s exceptionally friendly for families with a play area for kids, great coffee, comfortable seating areas, and free Wifi. Really liked the ambience.
Great venue for a family celebration!. I contacted, Kerry, the owner, to attempt to pull together a birthday party for my 1 year old. We were looking for a kid friendly venue, for our friends who would be bringing children, but also a good spot for adults, as there would only be a few children in attendance. The Hawthorne cafe was the perfect place, suited for both. I also needed a location somewhere between London and Barrie, to accommodate family traveling from a distance, and booked the cafe, sight unseen.I contacted about 20 businesses in the Guelph and Milton areas and received only about 5 prompt responses, and another 10 responses that took 4-10 days. The rest did not return calls or emails. Kerry’s communication with me was excellent and very customer service oriented.The day of the party the staff were incredibly helpful, everyone raved about the paninis and banana mini muffins we had as party favors that Hawthorne made, for our Monkey themed party. I would be thrilled to make the 7 minute drive off the highway when travelling home to visit family, just to bring my business back to Hawthorne. True meaning of customer service, genuineness, and great food, and clean and comfortable venue. Thank you so much to Hawthorne for helping us to celebrate such an important milestone.
This has been one of the worst food experiences I’ve ever had. It was a nice Sunday afternoon and the 4 of us were trying to find a place to eat. We weren’t too hungry and stumbled across Hawthorne cafe. After we ordered we sat down and waited for our food. Before the first 2 panini came out it took 40 minutes. By the time the next 2 came out it was 55 minutes. The lady behind the counter had no idea what she was doing. A customer after us ordered milk and she had to ask the lady making the sandwiches how to do that. Not to be rude but how the heck does she have a job here?!?!? The food was good nothing to complain about but was it worth the wait? Absolutely not!!!
Great food & coffee but ambience not so great. I met a friend here for coffee. Great coffee/cake/tarts. But the patio was really noisy (right on Derry Rd), with kids skateboarding nearby. So we went inside and the chairs were comfy but ….. the cafe was kind of messy. Garbage (scraps of paper; french fry) on the floor and when I went to throw out my coffee cup the garbage was full to overflowing. Wouldn’t have taken anyone more than 10 minutes to clean up but left a bad impression with me. Won’t visit again.
