Out of all the places I’ve eaten this place has the WORST service! Server never bothered to explain how things worked. Tried to ask questions to clarify but his English was subpar so he had a hard time understanding simple questions. Ordered our food and dishes were missing. Re-ordered the missing food plus more and we didn’t even get half of what we ordered. One of those hard to get items was regular white mushrooms. After the third request they finally came UNWASHED with DIRT still on all of them. Had to order a third time and still things were missing. Had to ask for drink refills 3 times before getting them. Can’t even blame the poor service on the restaurant being busy since they weren’t even half full. I’d hate to go on a busy day luckily for me this was my first and last time at this restaurant or any other locations in town. One last thing when we called to make a reservation for 7 people they never mentioned it was CASH ONLY! An important detail considering most places at least accept debit and most people don’t carry around enough cash to pay that of a size bill. Instead they have an ATM machine that charges you a fee and then your bank charges too.Visited June 2016
My absolute favourite place to eat in Ottawa. Even my picky eater brother likes this place! So this is definitely on my list to take my parents when they visit me, because we do not have a restaurant like this back in my home city.Service is pretty good considering we don’t really need any service. They bring your broth and you serve yourself at the buffet line – even drinks are self-serve. The only time servers come to your table is to refill your broth or ask if you want more lamb and beef. They do this pretty often so I have no complaints. One thing I noticed is many things are mislabeled so people with dietary restrictions beware. I love the variety of vegetables, meats, fish cakes, etc. they have. Certainly a great place to eat if you don’t do carbs in your diet, you can load up on so much protein. I prefer to eat with individual bowls here so you can season the broth however you like – they only give two choices unfortunately, spicy or not spicy, so you have to season it yourself. I like putting cilantro and peanut satay in my broth.I wouldn’t recommend coming on a dinner rush hour. A bit later or earlier in the day is good, less lineups, so less heat and less people cooking in the restaurant. When it’s packed it can get super humid, sweaty, and gross. It feels like a sauna in there and I don’t mean that in a good way.
With the price of hotpot meat going up in grocery stores and just the sheer variety of food at Mongolian hot pot, this place is a must go if you are hungry!
And another thing, the menu is not available on this site, im assuming because it offers nothing that is shown on their website. Also, the menu was very dirty. I washed my hands as soon as i left and arrived at ten sushi!22 Aug, 20143 WORDS DIRTY DINGY SMELLY …. 3 WORDSDIRTY DINGY SMELLYI took off after looking at the food on the shelf. I should have taken off from the disgusting entrance and doors. The smell of the place made my appetite drop to my heels.
Wonderful. We try to go once a month – love the variety and getting to cook and eat just the things you want – love the lamb plate and the mushrooms and it is so nice to just sit and take your time to eat – never any pressure to hurray… even my grandchildren love to come with us – they are 4 and 6 and have fun with this place.
Hot & spicy =). To my knowledge, this is the only restaurant in Ottawa that specializes in hot pot. The only other place that offers it that I’ve tried is Saigon Pho, but it is Vietnamese style so it’s a little bit different. The spicy broth is a definite must-try. You can get a split bowl so you can try both spicy and non-spicy, but if you can handle it the spicy broth is so worth it. The whole concept of the restaurant is that you not only cook yourself, but choose your own ingredients and basically serve yourself – so don’t be surprised if the service is not amazing (however, last time I went the staff seemed polite and friendly). Also be fore-warned that you will leave with the smell of spices in your hair and on your clothes. But in the end, it’s worth it for a filling and savoury all you can eat meal!
Not good. My roommate and I went to Mongolian Hot Pot and we were both pretty underwhelmed. Nothing tasted fresh, all the meat and seafood tasted like it had been frozen, and we think that some of the meat had been thawed and refrozen because it had a really weird grainy texture. We both really enjoyed the sesame balls, and the dessert but neither of us were impressed with the other options. I also thought it was a little unhygienic. The tongs that you’re supposed to use to pick stuff from the cooler to put onto your place were all over the place, not sure what else they had touched. After awhile everything just tasted like the broth instead of what it actually was, and I had to wash my hair to get the smell out. My jacket still smells like it. Also the service was alright at first but servers quickly forget about their tables. Quite expensive for something not very fresh and not very well maintained.
