Delicious, affordable, and fulfilling. Those are three words that should never be used to describe the food this place is serving. At first, I thought the Joy in the The Joy of Gluten Free was coming from the people who actually cant eat gluten that were watching us endure the same ill fate as themselves while visiting this place. However, after a large company order Ive come to learn that every single customer here has been robbed of flavor, money, and time.I got to try most of the baked goods so Ill state my thoughts on each:The chocolate cake brought back fond memories of my childhood, however this was not because of how good it tasted but because of how much it smelled and potentially tasted like Play-doh, at least the dough was sweet. There is not much to say about the cupcakes besides that they were the pinnacle of mediocrity, the best part about them was probably the buttercream. Unfortunately, the sandwiches, quesadillas, and paninis served here should be considered a cardinal sin. Not accounting for the fact that Ive seen more appetizing food from McDonalds delivered by Uber Eats, everything was utterly dry and devoid of flavor. For a $9 sandwich, I would also expect something larger than a double cheeseburger. So please, unless you want to experience what food should not taste like, avoid this place at all cost.
I have been going to joy of gluten free since it open however the visits became less frequent due to my not so joyful experiences. When they began serving sandwiches I was very happy finally there was a place I could go and sit and eat like a normal person. I have a severe allergy to gluten it isnt a choice unfortunately. They started serving sandwiches with meat unfortunately it was not very good though I loved the focaccia and cheese the beef was tough and fatty you could barely bite through it. After having this same experience a few times I decided to stop getting the meat and only chese which was fine at least it was something. Until last summer I bought a loaf of bread and it turned out to be full of mold. Their cupcakes are always dry as they are frozen also the doughnuts are very dry. Today was the last straw for me. I went in to get a sandwich and they had changed the menu I wanted a grilled cheese on focaccia I was told I couldnt have one I could only have a grilled cheese on chickpea bread which I didnt want because it had been moldy before and really turned me off to it. I said I would pay the extra instead of a 5$ grilled cheese I would pay the 9$ for the steak and cheese on focaccia and just not put thw steak on it and trade the swiss for cheddar. The person at the front said no I said why I will pay extra. Then the owner came over and daid we don’t do substitutes because I designed the sandwiches to taste good so you can’t change the toppings so I explained to her about the issues I had with the bread she still said no so I left with bothing. This is honestly ridiculous the only items I like are the butter tarts, blondies and focaccia bread. Not only has the food been bad and very very overpriced iv seen the owner scold the employees in front of customers many times treating them like they are trash and speaking to them like they are two year olds also it seems that people working there only last a month likely because of the owner. Needless to say I won’t be back its very unfortunate because there are not many places to go when you have allergies.
I absolutely love the things I’ve gotten so far from this place! The food (I’ve had four cupcakes, the chickpea-base pizza crust, the caramel slice and the donut muffin) is great! It is on the pricier side, so prepare to spend a lot more than you usually would. The red velvet is my fav :p I got the two pizza crusts (they come together for $14) and both were ripped and/or cracked. Otherwise, it was nice-tasting.
How is this place still open? I have only been in once, but my wife has given it a few chances and has always been left disappointed. Don’t mention it to the owner though because she will just throw the blame someone else, including apparently her own staff.
Love this place. With so many dietary restrictions, this place is awesome. Everything is labeled, so I can figure out what is dairy free as well. I enjoy having so many options to try. Some of the desserts I love, others not so much, but that is the way we are wired. Everything I have bought has been quality and definitely worth it. A great addition for those of us with restrictions, and I, for one, appreciate it.
It’s not so full of joy.. I have tried this gluten free bakery 3 times now and I have been highly disappointed each time… the owner’s attitude is not joyful and the food is always been dry and old tasting. I would not recommend this place.
I went in for the first time today and I will not be back. The customer service is terrible. I waited to be served – finishing up some mix was more important. I got vague answers to my dietary restrictions. If someone is particularly asking if a ingredient is in your baked goods you should tell them exactly which items it is in especially since your company is supposed to cater to people with specific dietary restrictions. While trying to decide after letting a previous customer go ahead of me I was impatiently asked if I was ready when the next customer had only just walked in. Whatever happened to first come first served? Customer service is everything and I am not surprised to see that I am not the only review saying this. The kicker to this whole ordeal is that I was surprisingly served by the owner herself!
