This place is good!! The food is well made and the beer selection long and varied!. It is like someone grabbed a restaurant from downtown Toronto and plopped it into Newmarket. It’s located on mainstreet Newmarket. If you haven’t been its dull of restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries and cute little shops selling jewellery, clothes, and decor . Worth a visit, especially on a nice day. It backs onto a river and lake and is the best place to go for a nice leisurely stroll. There’s a little on street parking and lots in either side of the street behind the buildings. On days like ‘Christmas lunch day’ parking can be a challenge despite all the spots. Like I always say – get a ride with someone who will drop you off at the door. Let them worry about parking. We came at 1 pm on a Thursday afternoon. We didn’t have a reservation which is normally not a problem at lunch (and we had a baby with us). We were escorted to the last table (score) and saw the huge groups dining. Christmas lunches! Everyone was in high spirits, laughs and smiles everywhere (good food and good beer?).So we were seated at the very last table next to the kitchen. It’s a table that was wedged in the back. I immediately thought it would be a crappy table. I was 100% wrong. It was the best table. We were separate from the loud din in the dining room and were able to have the best visit. The servers had to walk past our table to pick up meals so we were always given a once over to make sure everything was OK. Also it didn’t do any harm that we had the world’s cutest baby at our table! We were able to see the chefs cooking in the kitchen. It was great. The kitchen is clean and organised, the guys that worked back there got along and were friendly and it was nice to watch our food getting made. The food. Delicious. I got the KFC tacos. Korean fried chicken tacos and my friend got the fungi pizza. The tacos had a creamy kimchi slaw (super spicy), pickled cucumber slices and onion rings, and a curry ketchup. I was glad I was wearing an orange sweater because I ended up wearing most of the sauce from the first taco. I used a fork and knife after! The chicken was so good. I’m not even sure how to describe it because no matter what I say it won’t do it justice. One thing. It’s spicy so be prepared. I tried my friends pizza. It was delicious too. A great thin crust, thick with melted cheese with the earthy and meeting taste and texture from the mushrooms. I’m getting this next time. It’s hard to say which was best. If I had to pick I would say the pizza only because of the messy factor of the tacos. That’s the only reason.Fyi washrooms are in the basement.Staff was great. Everyone was so nice. It was crazy busy and everyone was still walking around with smiles and offered great serviceIt’s worth the trip to Newmarket. I’ll definetly be back!!! whatlynnate.wordpress.com

Great meal !First time going here with a group of friends and had a very nice meal. Service was very good and the food was excellent.I had the halibut special served on a bed of roasted cauliflower and vegs. I loved the presentation so much I took a picture. All our meals were done properly and served nicely. I will be back.

A nice mix of modern and rustic when you walk in. One wall is lined with empty kegs. Food is delicious. We ordered the bone marrow (person I was with was hesitant) and it was delicious. Fatty, salty, and served with pickled onions to cut through all that. The daily donut was also great (root beer and bacon!). A must try if you’re in Newmarket.

On a day more reminiscent of winter than the spring season were supposed to be experiencing, we piled into our car and headed to downtown Newmarket for a dining experience sure to lift our late-winter blues. Located at 211 Main St. S., in a building that used to house a bank is Hungry Brew Hops. A truly unique addition to the downtown strip, this young restaurant boasts modern industrial dcor and an extensive menu and beer selection that puts it in another league entirely. The first and only gastropub in Newmarket, opened a little over a year ago by craft beer enthusiast Boris Fong, Hungry Brew Hops has been tapping into a previously untapped market in the York region. Walls adorned by local artists make this restaurant feel genuine, but its the wall of beer kegs reaching high to the ceiling that speak to this restaurants true love. The gorgeous, long bar showcases thirty-three different types of alcoholic libations on tap including craft beer, cider and even four selections of wine. Yes, you read that correctly wine on tap.It felt wrong to start our meal off with anything other than a flight of beer so we decided on Stonehammers Hungry Brew Hops (the house beer, of course), Lake of Bays Cos Sparkhouse, Hoftbrau HBs Munchen Original and Sawdust Citys Long, Dark Voyage the perfect selection of craft beer to start of our delicious adventure. We were lucky enough to arrive the same day the lunch menu had been updated and got a chance to sample it. To start, we were recommended by the chef, Matt, to try a menu staple the Roasted Bone Marrow ($9). Having never before tried bone marrow, we were a little skeptical and not quite sure what to expect. When set down in front of us, the presentation alone made it extremely appealing and to our surprise, it tasted amazing too. The roasted, smoky flavours of the bone permeated the marrow perfectly, which had a smooth texture. Deliciously juicy and fatty, the pickled onions cut through this rich dish making for a perfect spread on bread. Those looking for something unique to share should take the leap trust us!New to this updated menu was the Crispy Chicken Sandwich ($14). A truly generous portion, we were able to split it between two people easily. Put simply, this dish tastes like a late night drunken guilty pleasure food but on a much higher scale. If that doesnt make sense, its our way of saying we loved it! The chicken was juicy and panko breaded, topped with pimento cheese, pickles, house made coleslaw and served between brioche buns. After hearing a lot of buzz about the ever-popular HBH burger, Chef Matt was wonderful enough to prepare them in slider versions as we were way too full for another full meal. Tucked between two fluffy white buns, the locally-sourced beef patty and Philly meat come dripping in sweet chili aioli, beer-braised onions, and copious amounts of American white cheese. A side of animal-fat fried fries (try saying that ten times fast) were the perfect salty and crispy addition to this savoury dish. Finally, although we were very full, we couldnt leave without at least tasting the Daily Donut ($6). Our choice for that day, as the donut changes daily, was the Dr. Pepper. Made with amaretto, rum, their house beer, bacon and micro mints, this donut was out of this world. For craft beer lovers and culinary champions looking for the perfect place to truly enjoy their dining experience, Hungry Brew Hops is sure toplease. To catch their lunch menu, be sure to head in between 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., or bring your appetites to their dinner menu later in the day.Simplify itPricing: $$$ out of $$$$$Atmosphere: Fun, RusticType of food: AmericanWe Suggest: Bone Marrow, Chicken SandwichLocated: 211 Main St, Newmarket, ON L3Y 3Z3 thebigeatontario.com

Not a good experience. Tries too hard to be luxurious and different. Menu was a sheet of paper on a clipboard. Menu items were hard to understand, were strange and extremely over priced. I had a burger, which was good, but not worth $15. I was with a large group and they added gratuity of 18% (way too high in my opinion). Because they knew they were receiving a generous tip automatically, they didn’t care much about the table, and we experienced less than satisfactory service. Waitress screwed up my change, didn’t seem like an accident because it was impossible to screw up the scenario of my bill, almost pocketed about $10 of my change to herself.I won’t go back.13 Oct, 2014Not a good experience. One of my Faves. I usually go downtown for this type of food so I was extremely happy when they opened this restaurant in the heart of Newmarket. I have been there more than 10 times since they opened and have never had bad service. Everything I have eaten there has been nothing less than delicious… the roasted bone marrow, their burgers, salads, pastas, mussels and their popcorn with pancetta is my daughters fave. There beer selection is vast and the wait staff will help you match it with your meal and the desserts are even better. Great place for a late night drink and food to share.

My wife and I have made lunch at HBH on Saturdays a tradition that we really look forward to. We have not had a bad meal, and I look forward to trying a beer every time we are there. We always sit at the bar and have found the bartenders to be fantastic. We love this place. One small critique; I wish they had a pilsner and nut brown on tap.
