Not sure what all of the hype is about…. The service was really good, but the food was not impressive in any way, and the diner itself didn’t feel very clean. I would not go again.
Amazing diner food that’s affordable! Full of regular customers who just keep coming back for more! It has a very family friendly atmosphere! If you go often enough the owners will even start to know you by name! It’s my favourite breakfast spot.
Great pancakes. I had the big breakfast, not sure of the actually name at the restaurant for it but the typical big breakfast combo. The service was quick and efficient, food was hot and served timely. it was a little greasy for me but that’s to be expected. The pancakes knocked it out of the park, screaming hot, fluffy, with the nice added touch of butter on top which saved me from having to open those little packets of butter as I’m not the biggest fan of that. They allowed me to switch to all sausage rather than the ham/bacon which was nice and my instructions for crispy home fries was followed (this is rare)The price was the best price for this sort of meal that I’ve seen around $8, extreme value by comparison.I will definitely go again, although I wish they would reconfigure the seating as it doesn’t feel like the best use of space
Best breakfast place ever. Excellent service, amazing home fries. Never been disappointed. You can really tell that the owners take pride in their business.
Excellent Food, service, and atmosphere. I have been eating breakfast at Mel’s Dinor for over 10 years. It is excellent food, always prepared perfect, and an excellent price. I have overheard customers saying it is always consistent. The service is excellent. You will always get the one or two customers who just like to complain. It is just there nature, The Restaurant has a family atmoshphere. You should really check it out. You will not be disappointed. Great food, at a great price and excellent service.
Serving ill prepared food. On Saturday November 5, 2011 I went for breakfast at Mels dinner. I have eaten there prior with no issues. This time I ordered Eggs Benedict as it is one of my favorite meals. After being served my meal I went to take a bite of the Hollandaise sauce and noticed it was ice cold. I caught the attention of the usual Saturday morning blond haired waitress and advised her my Hollandaise was not hot or at least even warmed up. She advised in not so many words this was normal, the cook puts cold hollandaise on the eggs and it warms up from the heat of the eggs. Well for me, having eaten eggs benedict at a number of other establishments this is not normal preparation for hollandiase sauce, it’s sort of gross actually and told her I didn’t want the meal and would order something different. I instead ordered ham and eggs over easy. The same waitress returned a short time later with my new meal. While placing my meal on the table she advised that no other customer had ever complained about the way the eggs benedict was served and I wasted a whole meal because of my complaint. You have to understand Mels is quit a tiny place and her comments to me were definately overheard by other patrons in the establishment. Her comments were most definately out of order too. Who is she to dress me down because I refused to eat and then pay ill prepared food or take the chance the cook scraped off the hollandaise sauce nuked it and reserved me the same bad meal. As for the other customers not complaining about this, that’s there stupidity. Hollandaise sauce is served hot over hot eggs, not cold as this can cause the sauce to curdle. It’s simple modular phsics and the norm to serving it. Something both the waitress and the cook need to learn. So in finishing, I waisted 2 meals that morning. I held my head high and walked out after giving my own dressing down to the waitress. And then I went to Cora’s and thoroughly enjoyed my eggs benedict with hot hollandaise sauce. So yes to the waitress, I did have a nice day!
