IHOP used to be my favorite pancakes restaurant during high school!! breakfast options here are plenty and delicious! Staff are very friendly and service is exceptional. It was a nice spot to start our day at. Order: vegetarian omelette with potato wedges and pancakes. Total bill for two: approx. CAD$ 30

clearWe were famished as we didn’t have (couldn’t afford actually) breakfast and headed to IHOP for a brunch before heading back to Toronto. As an Indian, I look forward to North American breakfasts and our team of 5 adults and two kids rushed into the welcoming warmth of IHOP from the freezing cold. When we looked at the prices our eyes bulged out (the Indian Rupee’s depreciation had added to our woes). Average prices were about CAD 18. Add to that the 13% tax, the gratuity of 18% (payable when there are more than 5 persons) made that very, very expensive. However, we decided to order a dish each (excepting the two kids) and would make it a meal to remember. My daughter assured me that the portions were huge thereby saving money during tea and possibly dinner :-o.The food was pretty good and my Colorado Omlete was stuffed with chunks of bacon, steak and ham with a generous topping of cheddar. The Hash Brown was boring. However, what was disappointing was the quantity served. It was reasonable but definitely not large enough. I ended up stealing food from the rest of the family. We had also ordered the Spicy Poblano Omlete, Chicken Florentine Crepe, Double Blueberry Pancakes and some eggs and sausages for the kids. Our bill came to CAD 199 or about 11,000. We gulped down a whole lot of water, paid the bill and left silently.CAVEAT – Eating out in Canada is super expensive compared to the US. Our family members who had joined us from the US (who earn in US$) had also found it very expensive. So, if you’re traveling from India, make your orders smaller or carry a larger stash of cash.
