Decided to celebrate new year’s eve at the Embassy Suites, and it made sense to dine at the Keg.Even after making reservations months ahead, and arriving early, we still could not get a window seat. The waiting time for a window seat was arbitrarily assigned ‘about 1 hour or more’. We decided to skip the window seating. The wait staff was pleasant, friendly and helpful. We had our orders placed, nothing complicated, and informed about a nut allergies issue. The Pistachio crusted salmon was grilled without the nut crust or the maple butter (personal preference). The food arrived within a reasonable time. The food was delicious, succulent and tender. No complaints about the food whatsover. Dinner for four without alcohol cost approximately $240 with tip, a bit pricey, but The Keg is not a cheap place to dine, and the location is a premium venue.
I took my husband there for his birthday. We made reservations for 5pm and waited about 15mins sit near the falls. The view was lovely. The waiter was great and pleasant. We had the top sirloin and I had the one with shrimp and scallops. The food came quickly. My steak was not entirely cooked medium but it was flavorful and tender. Our friends loved the blue cheese steak and NY strip. They gave my bf a huge birthday ice cream mocha cake..delicious! Price was reasonable given the atmosphere. Advice. Make reservations and arrive early for window seating.
We decided to check this place out on the fly because it seemed to have it going on. Excellent food, service and surroundings. The bacon wrapped scallops and steaks we had were amazing. Only complaint, someone actually had a screaming child in there for the first part of our evening, and it took away from a very romantic atmosphere. We wanted to return the next night, it was that good, but decided we should really try something new while we were in town.
This is a romantic spot, mainly because of the view. You take an elevator from the ground floor of the Hotel to the restaurant. The atmosphere inside the lounge and bar area could be a little better considering the prices and reputation of being upscale, having said that we were not in the main room. I’m not sure if that’s much better. The steak was pretty good, but not overwhelmingly so. The service was ok but not extra or memorable. They told us when we arrived that there was a half an hour wait but most of the tables were empty from what we could see from the entrance. Another girl whispered to the first girl that we could sit down, and while we were there for 1 hour, no one came and filled those empty seats, so no idea what that was about. munchingqueen.wordpress.com
Amazing view of the falls. Food was fresh and prompt. The.place was super busy and I could tell why. Food was great. Amazing service. I recommend the brie and Crustini to start. Highly recommend reservations !
Location is great. Excellent view of the falls, particularly at night. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the state of the restaurant itself and the facilities are top notch. Based on those criteria, I’d give it a 5 star. The food was very overpriced for the quality. There was nothing wrong with it (actually, the chicken was very tender and flavorful), but nothing to warrant the cost. Ribs were average (maybe slightly above). The chicken in the Caesar salad looked like it came out of a Tyson bag. The only two beers on draft were from the Niagara Brewing Company, and while the cream ale was quite decent (though a little flat), the red was flat as a board and lacked flavor. The kids’ meals includes ice cream, which was certainly just something out of a 5 gallon container. It was overall a decent experience, but having been told it was going to be the best in town, the food was a bit of a letdown. That all being said, I did not try the steak, which is their claim to fame, I guess. All in all, what got me in there was the price point and the wild, crazy assumption that a place called the Keg might have a few brews on tap.
