Nice Local Spot. Kim’s Wooden Nicol is a great local bar, and I go there quite often with my husband. Prices are on the high end, but not outrageous. Service is friendly and efficient. Beer is cold. The Schooner/wings deal is excellent, and the wings are always well prepared. Love the Asiago soup. Nachos are quite good, you don’t get a huge pile with topping sitting on top and nothing on the bottom; you get a smaller amount of nachos, that is nicely balanced with very good toppings. Burgers aren’t bad, but nothing special – The meat is often over-charred, and the whole thing lacks a certain flair. Could really work more on the burgers. Also, the home-made chips have got to go; they seem to pick up rancid flavours from the oil, and the accompanying dip is not very good. Last time I ate a burger and chips there, I was nauseous, bloated and uncomfortable for the rest of the day. I suggest ordering a salad as side, even though it costs $1.85 more, it is made with fresh ingredients and the serving size is generous. You’ll feel better for it. Really – rethink the chips!I still recommend the place though, and give credit to Kim for her professional approach.Recent entry – several months later: Still a very nice place to have a few drinks and a simple meal. Wings were great, as always, and potato skins were really, really good. Too bad there were only three skins for two people. That’s one and a half potato per customer. Pretty chintzy for semi-regular customers who tip well. Our server was Kim herself who treated us as though we were warts. Gotta work on Customer Service Kim.
Great deal there! You can buy five beers at a time and they give you wood chips. You can save them, give them to underage friends, save them up and have a blast!Only place in town where you can pre-buy drinks for when you are drunk or broke!Rocky
