We had the breakfast here. Beautiful sun filled room with professional service. The is place is expensive but the eggs Benny were the best I’ve ever had.
Elegant surroundings.. too bad the sandwiches and pasteries weren’t better. My daughter and I went booked high tea last Sunday for my birthday. The gorgeous room they led us into was so inviting that excited us even more about the tea we were there for. The chairs were wing backed or Queen Anne type and all were upholstered in floral patterns. The rug on the floor and chandelier above also added to the special occasion. We have come to visit many tea rooms for our special times together and we both agreed this was the nicest room for our high tea s far. The tea cups were matching and when we ordered our choices ( Earl Grey and my daughter had the vanilla blueberry) they came in gorgeous teapots to match. I was happy to see that the loose leaves that so many places have didn’t land in the pots at all . Everything seem perfect and we ordered the Prince of Wales tea which included cheese and crackers and then the tier of the usual type high tea selections. The cheeses were very good. Especially the brie they offered was wonderfully creamy. As we enjoyed the wait between sipping our lovely teas we saw the 3 tier silver tray coming our way. It was gorgeous. The scones were hot and came with Devon creme and raspberry jam. They were outstanding . Then this perfect tea took a turn. The sandwiches were on stale bread! There was dark rye with I think had the thinnest tinniest piece of salmon and same sort of spread in it. You could barely tell what was in any of the sandwiches actually, the filling was so scant in all of them. There were 2 other types- one with cucumber and cream cheese ( but I cant be sure of that either- no filling) and the other one I think had the tinniest slice of ham in the middle with dots of red,. If I had to guess I would have thought it was cranberry but you couldn’t taste them because they really were just too small. We tried the mini quiche that had a sweet base I felt didn’t go with the egg. There was a plain cookie shaped like a daisy that was just that- plain, a small tasteless pink cupcake that looked far better than it tasted stale and even the topping was bland. On the top tier with the previously mentioned desserts was a tart with lemon curd topped with meringue. The tart and curd was very good but the meringue lacked the sweetness it needed. The blackberry beside it was the best item on the top. There was also a raspberry square that wasn’t as goo d as the ones you can buy at the bakery in NOTL. I wouldn’t recommend this tea because of the poor quality food they serve. It is a shame that a gorgeous place associated with a nice restaurant can’t put out a decent high tea.
