A breath of fresh air has blown into the Oban Inn Restaurant. Recently I have dined several times at the Oban Inn restaurant and found it a most pleasurable experience. The new Manager, Perry Johnson, formerly of the Stone Road Grille, has now taken over and has brought light, warmth and conviviality to his position.. The place could do with a make-over to brighten up what is rather a dull setting. I am hopeful that the owner may decide to do this as people I have spoken to mention with regret how lively the atmosphere used to be when there was a piano bar there. People need fun and friendship as well as good food to survive these days in what is an increasingly difficult world to live in. Dining out is one way in which this can be achieved. The menu is delicious and affordable.Joan PeterNiagara on the Lake

Good Choice. A many time visitor to Niagara asked me, the local resident, to select a restaurant which would be a reasonable walking distance to the main street theatres.Knowing there was a new manager I suspected there would be a few changes since my last visit four years ago. The welcome was delightful, friendly and genuine. Very interesting menu with a few different twists. Although not a vegetarian the veg offering caught my attention and I found every morsel to be filled with exciting taste. It was a tough decision since several offer items looked promising. To top off the main course, the banana flamb was creatively served and exploded with flavours.I will be back and I have every intention of recommending others to dine at the Oban.

Wow amazing. Great service, really great food. My husband is still raving about how good it was. Would recommend to everyone!

Oban Inn Food Disappoints. Four of us dined at the Restaurant Oban Inn during Fabulicious. Although my husband and I had a bad experience there two years ago, we decided to give it a second chance. Big mistake! Although the service was good, the food was mediocre. The amuse bouche gave us our first indicator that the food experience might be lacking. It certainly didnt wake up our taste buds. Three of us reported our first courses to be bland and uninteresting. I had to send my entree back as the fish was overcooked and rubbery. The other three entrees were described as flavourless. Two of the desserts boasted coconut in the descriptions, but not a taste of coconut was to be found, although the desserts were tasty in themselves. We told our wait person of our dismay with the food after both the first course and entrees. The response was I will let the chef know. At the end of the meal, not a word of sorry or a complimentary glass of wine in recognition of our poor food experience. None of us will go back or recommend this restaurant.

We came here a few nights ago, my fianc had an amazing and delicious seafood entre that could easily have sold for twice the price. I was not so lucky in my selection. I ordered just a simple pasta meal, but was thoroughly disappointed. Everything, from the olive oil garlic sauce to the marinara sauce tasted only like nutmeg or ginger. My fianc’s dish even had the taste of nutmeg in it, although not as strong. Over all I’d say the oban has great quality ingredients but is a little sketchy on their flavor combinations and obviously gets a little over zealous with spices.

Memories. I had a steak here as a child in the late 80s, and I still remember it as definitively the best meal I ever had. We returned a couple years ago, and obviously much has changed at the Oban since then. While I wouldn’t gush about the follow up visit quite as strongly, the food remains excellent. Resultingly, we’ve been back numerous times now, with several different chefs, and have never left underwhelmed. The Oban is among our favourite restaurants in the area, and remarkably consistent. If the price is prohibitive for you, keep an eye out for the various NOTL promotions like Fabulicious. The Prix Fixe menus for these events are an exceptional value.

Overpriced; dietary issues not accomodated very well. The Oban Inn is fine dining and quite expensive. I have been twice and was unimpressed by my meal both times. While the meal was fine, it was more average than the price would indicate. Also, my daughter has a dairy allergy, so I emailed a week in advance to validate what options would be available for her. The concierge sent me a children’s menu and recommended two dairy-free items. I was pleased with this service. Upon arriving at the restaurant, I was advised the children’s menu I was sent was unfamilar to the server and they could not make either of the two dishes we had pre-selected. They suggested pasta with red sauce, which would have been fine had the sauce not been an extremely spicy arrabiata which was totally unsuitable for a child. I was very unimpressed by their inability to find a meal for my daughter. You would think a fine dining restaurant would be excellent at making special accomodations like this.
