We went Ravine Vineyard Winery for the first time for the Mother’s Day. The wine we had( Riesling) was very nice. First, We ordered caramelized cauliflower poutines which there was ONE cauliflower in each poutine. The gravy had No flavour…. Next we ordered their trout cakes to share.. The fennel sauce was nice but the cake itself was all blended into one form which had no texture.. Some of us had Ling cod, beef tenderloin, eggplant(vegan dish), beet salad. COD and beef tenderloin were ok. Not much flavour though. Both dish needed salt. They were ok. Nothing impressive. The problem was the eggplant dish. There was absolutely nothing on eggplant. Just dried baked eggplants… It was the worst vegetarian dish ever.. Our server didn’t question if there was anything wrong with the dish even though anybody can tell thatyou didn’t touch it after one or two bites. It was definitely a beautiful place to dine in but the food overall, was not good at all… Need to work on the kitchen really.. People expect nice quality with unique and tasty food when we eat out at winery. They need to work on the vegetarian/vegan items… It was really disappointing.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Niagara region, and infinitely better than the touristy crap you find in Niagara-on-the-Lake. In usually here for lunch but this time tried their dinner. An updated menu since last time I was here. Appetizers outshine the mains (which are generous but tend to be on the dry side). Service is excellent. They may have undergone a few management and staff changes sing last time you were here, so it’s worth trying again. The outside bar with wood fired oven is nice, and there’s live music on the weekends. Perfect end to a day at the wineries.
The food was delicious. I ordered the oysters and the lamb sausage. Very good, so many complex flavours in the sausage and the oysters tasted very fresh. I loved that you can pair a wine with your meal that was fun. Unfortunately I can’t give a great rating due to our server. She was rude and kept not bringing bread when we asked. Then acted as if we never asked. Not impressed. That kind of ruined the restaurant for me. Otherwise it’s beautiful and the food is fantastic.
Food was lovely, but we felt it was overpriced. The waitress was quite snooty and obviously discarded us after we only ordered an entree each for lunch. Wines were ok but also pricey considering the amount of competition in the region. The wine tasting boys were lovely and friendly.
Wonderfully fresh and innovative cuisine. They make their own everything: bread, cured meats, fresh herbs etc. Definitely a great place to dine at the niagara region. Service was great also.
Staying in the Niagara Falls area but not wanting to eat at the overpriced theme restaurants, we decided to go to Niagara on the Lake and try one of the vineyard restaurants. We chose Ravine just out of the blue and made reservations. The actual restaurant was once owned by Anna Olsen as a bakery but has been converted to a restaurant. Being a nice summer evening, we decided to eat outside. The choice was a good one because the views of the vineyard are beautiful on a summer late afternoon / early evening. However that is where the good impressions end. The wine is good and well-priced. However the chef tries too hard to provide extraordinary food using the local ingredients. My wife ordered a foie gras terrine with jelly and stewed rhubarb and crumbled toffee. Suffice it to say that it failed to impress for the terrine was nothing more than soft foie gras that was lacking texture. I cannot recall my appetizer at all. For a main, we both ordered the seasoned spaghetti with grilled baby eggplant. We did not want a heavy meat dish and thought this would be a good alternative. Well… I think we threw the kitchen staff for a loop because they must have thought that no one would ever order the pasta course. It took a little over 20 minutes to arrive at our table and it was just a plate of store bought dry pasta mixed with pesto with congealed melted provolone cheese and a couple of small grilled aubergines. The dish was lukewarm to cold and was something my wife and I could have made better (and faster) at home. In my opinion, I would recommend that the Ravine Vineyard stick to making wine and nothing more.
Split Decision. My wife and I headed here for dinner one night and walked away with very different opinions. My wife was disappointed by the Pork Chop. Presentation was lacking and the meal was not special. I had the rib steak and oysters. Both were good. I would look for other spots before returning. Service on this particular night was slow. Maybe due to the numbers?
