Romby’s – it’s new incarnation. I have been a patron of Romby’s, under various managements, for the 30 years I have lived in St. Catharines. I have always loved the cozy bar atmosphere. The newest owners are young and smart, but there have been a few bumps in the road in the inevitable struggle between the old regulars and the young crowd that they hope to attract. It seems as though things have settled down, and everyone appears to be happy. The beer is always cold and reasonably priced, and service is generally friendly with the exception of one particularly bad-tempered fellow, who I hope stays behind the scenes from now on – for everyone’s sake. The food is just okay. I expected better since they began smoking and barbecuing their own meats, but I haven’t been impressed by anything I’ve had so far. There are obviously the usual, acceptable bar foods, but the specialties ie: smoked, pulled chicken sandwich – tastes over-sauced, and beyond it’s expiry date. Would really like to see an improvement there, especially because the prices aren’t cheap (dropped $70 -including tip – on a lunch consisting of sandwich, fish and chips and 6 pints). I remember years ago when Rombeys used to serve a wonderful pepper steak with salad – those were the days. Anyway, I still think it’s a great place, and the new management is doing some fun things that should appeal to many people. Just like to see it remain a place for all ages.
Best bar in St Catharines. Great bands, great food and friendly staff make this my favourite bar in St. Catharines. Try the wolverine wings and you’ll never go anywhere else for wings again!
Great times, excellent crowd.The food is great, BBQ smoked food.Weekends have a great crowd and fun bands.Upbeat, great place to bring friends and socialize.
