A Visit To Taste. E: This being a caf in the visitor-heavy strip of Niagara-On-The-Lake the experience was bound to be uneven and it was. My blueberry lime tart was delicious, albeit tasted a little old. It might have been a day old. The price of the tart was $4 approximately, which was similar to the several other tart options in the fridge. Double chocolate, for example, was the upstairs neighbour of blueberry lime. The paper menus contain a list of sandwiches and light meals. Oddly, I noticed they do not have lattes, etc. They only offer coffee. It is not a concern for me, but the omission seemed odd.-A: It was busy and full. It was slightly hectic too, which had created a little bit of mess at the caf. Chairs and tables were presumably shifted around and created a messy appearance. The chairs and two tables outside were different than the ones inside for obvious reasons. The ones outside still had water on them and were not wiped even though the rain had ceased earlier. The town’s flowers in front of the caf were beautiful and subject of many cameras.-T: Once anyone finds parking in the vicinity then one has to find available tables at an eatery. Once that is done one has to receive service. Taste has solved that problem by having customers order at the counter. There were no less than five women behind the counter and another behind the cash. Service was fast.-S: Strange then that there was no table service and the caf seemed (just a little) in shambles. The milk counter, tables and the aforementioned outside furniture needed attention. As friendly as the girls behind the counter were there was room for a couple of them to pay attention to the dining area.
Yum Chicken Curry. While visiting the numerous wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake we got hungry and Taste was recommended as an affordable lunch location by some locals. A small chicken curry was just the thing to fill us up. It took a few minutes to prepare but was well worth the wait. It came out pipping hot, full of shredded chicken, apples, raisins, diced vegetables, and a well seasoned slightly spicy sauce that soaked into the rice below creating a mouth-watering combination that was a treat for all the scenes.
A tasteful and sensible deli restaurant. Located close to the Shaw Festival theatre in downtown Niagara-on-the-Lake, Taste is a wonderful alternative to the generally overpriced restaurants in the area. On a recent trip to this beautiful little town, my sister and I had been walking up and down Queen Street looking for an affordable lunch place, until we discovered Taste tucked in between various old shops. While its sandwiches and wraps menu offers no particular surprise, this restaurant serves homemade soup (the squash soup was delicious!), excellent sandwicjhes, and a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The place can be very crowded at times, as it was when we visited on a Saturday in September. The line of customers waiting to be served at the counter zigzaged between the tables. Nonetheless, this is the best place in Niagara-on-the-Lake for a tasteful and sensible meal..
