I’ve been going here for over 20 years and have NEVER had a disappointing meal, and the staff have ALWAYS been friendly and upbeat and a joy to be around. The atmosphere is built on the original general store that the building was, and is aimed at an informal British pub/Victorian drawing room feel (although the food is waaaaay beyond pub fare). It’s hard to explain; go there and see. Knick knacks are brought in by patrons and have been multiplying over the years. They’re kept on the shelves by the tables and you’re welcome to inspect them, play with them, look through them, all you want. Some real antiques and memory shakers there.
Disappointed. My husband and I chose the Brigadoon to celebrate his birthday based on its reputation … and we came away very disappointed. We found it extremely overpriced for the quality of food we were served. We both chose the steak ‘special’. The best part was the delicious bread that was served while we waited for our meal. The meal came with a battered lobster starter which was just ok. Our steak was cooked medium rare as we had asked but the ‘wine sauce’ it was covered in tasted (and looked) from a can. Asparagus is in season, but the ones we were served were not sweet and firm at all. Dessert was a ‘apple and strawberry pie’ which definitely had seen better days. The filling was brown and tasteless.Oh, what a disappointment!! My husband had a beer and I had a cider … And our bill was $146 before tip!!The young girl who served us was very pleasant and helpful, but the older lady (owner??) who took our order seemed very tired and unhelpful. On top of that, we found the room extremely over cluttered with knick knacks which did not make for a soothing atmosphere at all!Maybe we made poor menu choices, but at those prices we cannot afford to try it again!
Fabulous Dinner!. Had heard a lot of great things of this restaurant over the years but was pleasantly surprised still as it surpassed my expectations!!! I’ve dined at many of the best restaurants in Ottawa, and my meal at Brigadoon this weekend was comparable!! Just Excellent!! Beautiful atmosphere decorated for Christmas!! A little dated decor, but we’re in the country! 😉
Great Restaurant. I have been here many times. It’s in a great old building with lots of charm. The owner is extremly friendly and welcoming. The food is fantastic and have never had a bad meal there. I have had the Filet Mignon, salmon and had duck. I would like to try the wild boar next time I go. It’s definitely worth the drive out to Oxford Mills.
Disappointed. After reading some great reviews and word of mouth praises, we opted to take our Mother out for a birthday celebration at the Brigadoon Restaurant in Oxford Mills. We were a group of 11. We all had high hopes for a delicious dinner, especially with the menu options and upper scale pricing. However, at the end of the evening, all of us left without being impressed with their dinners.I had the Surf n Turf ($56)..filet mignon, 2 lobster tails and sides of vegetables and potato. Both lobster tails didn’t have any flavour. Granted, lobster isn’t in season right now, but it hardly had that lobster flavour at all. One was real mushy in consistency and the other was tough and undercooked. Side veggies were okay, undercooked (seems to be the trend these days) and the potato of the day (potato leek pie) was bland and uninspiring. It seems like a fried hunk of leftover potatoes that probably just sits in the back all prepared and warmed up in the oven. Everyone in our group were unimpressed with the potatoes. The steak came prepared how I wanted, medium-rare, but I always order rare, because not often do I find a restaurant that cooks their steaks properly. It was also tender, but again, lacking in the flavour department. My Mom enjoyed her Crispy duck leg, but the veggies were undercooked and she didn’t like the potatoes. My Aunt enjoyed her Prime Rib, but again the sides were unsatisfactory. All in all, no one at our table came away with the feeling that the meal was great, just okay, and definitely not worthy of such an expense. My bill came out to just over $80 with 2 beers, then I gave a $20 tip. The service was fine, however neither the server nor the owner came over to ask how the meals were. It was probably better that way.
