Friday September 9,2016 @ 8:30pm: I (asian) went in with my wife (caucasian) and the place was half empty. Got seated at a table for 4. We asked for one of the the booths instead and were told it was reserved for groups of 3 or more. I pointed out to her that all of the other occupied booths had only 2 (asian most likely Korean) people in each of them but that didn’t seem to phase her.We didn’t feel welcome and left for another restaurant. On our way back we had to walk across the place again and guess how many people were seated in that booth we asked? Only two (asian looked Korean to me) ladies. The restaurant was still half empty.
3 Star + 0.5 for having 1/2 price wing special on Tuesdays!Tuesday 1/2 Wings with purchase of a drink and Raptors Game 5! We ordered 2 orders of wings (Mild and Spicy). I like how crispy the fries was and how spicy spicy was. Because of the spiciness, my 2 friends opt out and I ended up eating the whole order by myself… Sweet!Padak Half Chicken Boneless. You better love green onions. I do wish for more green onions and a little more sauce. But it was quite delicious. Some pieces were a little dry because I do prefer dark meat. The side dish were so so aside from the pickled radish. The salad was drown in Thousand Island Sauce and the peanuts was stale. Just a note, if you order Wing Specials, you won’t be getting any side dish. When we walked in, all tvs were showing Blue Jays! We asked the waitress can the channel be changed to Raptors Playoff game, she said it would be fine but I need to tell her what channel?!
This place has been opened for a while now in the neighborhood. You won’t know what they specialize in except for chicken since that is on their signage. My friends and I decided to try it out. We were hoping that they would show the UFC pay per view as well but they didn’t. They have Korean fried chicken as the main dish with different sauces/garnishes mixed in. We settled for a whole chicken $27.50 with two flavors. One was a green onion sauce and the other with Korean hot sauce. It came with some pickled veggies. The chicken had arrived and was freshly fried. The green onion sauce was on the sweet side while the Korean hot flavor was with a red hot sauce. They tasted fine but not that refined. It would be a good place to go to if you are sick of chicken wings at your typical pub.
Originally, I wanted to get take out from The Fry but I didn’t realize they opened at 6pm. Luckily, Dakgogi opens at 5pm so I called them for am order of the special half and half (soy garlic and hot) and a full order of the green onion chicken. The lady that picked up my call seemed a bit confused but soon understood what I wanted. I was told that it would be ready in about 15 min.I went into the restaurant about 20 min later and there was no one dining at the restaurant yet. I guess it might have been too early – around 5:40pm). My order was ready when I got there.Since it took me an hour to get home, the chicken had cooled down a little which may have impacted the taste.Overall, the chicken was still good and remained a bit crispy. The spicy chicken was so spicy! Koreans do love their spice, The soy garlic was quite tasty and wasn’t too drenched in sauce. There was a lot of green onion on the last chicken but since it took me so long, it had wilted a little. They also gave me two cans of pop, and two side dishes (radish and salad).I think I liked The Fry more since most pieces of chicken had no bones at The Fry but I didn’t order that time so I’m not sure if you have to specially ask for that. Overall, I think the Korean fried chicken here is quite good and would be willing to come back to try a dine in experience.
My favourite Korean Fried Chicken place in North York right now. It’s always hot and busy. The chickens are always so delicious! Especially the kimchi fries is the kick here!! It’s better than any other places (ie. Bahn mi boys or moo frites)What you must try : kimchi fries, fried chicken, fried chicken with sweet and spicy sauce
Welcome to street parking and if you know Yonge street then maybe you can locate the closest Green P parking lot. Anyhow I did not drive and my friend could perform the parallel park, so woohoo! We actually wanted to go to St. Louis for half price wings but I was told by my friend that Dakgogi has a similar offer. Unfortunately I didnt pay so I cant really comment on the pricing of this place but Ive been told its not bad lols (worst reviewer ever). Anyhow I must be very foreign because I have never tasted corn in mayonnaise. I always knew Korean appetizers are amazing but this dish right here wins the gold prize. Its sweet, gooey, and chewy yes, its the right combination for a bombtastic snack. First of all, its on a heated plate so the corn is warm at all times baby. Next up is the kim chi fries and this might be better than the ones at Banh Mi Boys. It is HUGE. Unfortunately the wings were a disappointment, not only were the sizes small but the sauces were not original (e.g. no special kick to it or better yet, they taste like the chicken wings you would find in microwaveable dinners). Id like to add that the hot sauce is extremely hot, to the point where my friend and I chugged down a glass of water and still felt our tongue burning. The place is quite busy on a Tuesday so dont expect service to be fast lols. thesfarm.wordpress.com
Dakgogi is a solid addition to the choir of Korean fried chicken places in the GTA. If you’ve ever had KFC of the Asian kind, the menu will be a familiar assortment of fried poultry and spicy Korean sauces (if you haven’t tried Korean fried chicken, stop reading this and get some).During my visit we ordered the half-half chicken with soy sauce glaze and spicy Korean glaze, plus another plain fried chicken on the side. The plain fried chicken itself was good. The chicken was juicy, albeit with a less crispy exterior than other KFC places in the area. The soy glaze was great, with a perfect balance of sweet and saltiness. The glaze itself was a bit spotty with patches of chicken being neglected, which is a shame considering how much I enjoyed the sauce. The hot sauce was intensely spicy and sweet. Definitely reserved for veterans of the Scoville scale. As a side note the service was terrible. The whole kitchen staff was on break during the entirety of our meal. I understand that a place which focuses on booze and fried food might not be expecting people so early on a Friday night (we went at 7pm) but I don’t think thats an excuse for us to take 30 mins to flag down a waitress to order + get water and then another 30 mins to try to pay for our meal.Overall the food is solid at Dakgogi and their wing specials are an attractive option for those looking to stray from the beaten path for their chicken fix. Personally I still prefer The Fry and Cheers Chicken and Beers as my go tos for KFC in the city.
