This takeout spot was my first Iranian food experience. I had the Friday special which featured beef and was prepared in a way that reminded me of meatloaf. You can ask for half salad/half rice for your side, and you’ll still get big portions – but I didn’t end up eating the salad as it was mostly iceberg lettuce. Blah. The meat and rice were very salty – a big turnoff from visiting again. I had a bite of my friend’s chicken kabob and it was surprisingly bland.
I wanted to grab dinner within walking distance of home and i wanted chicken so i decided to try Gol. On a side street near yonge and sheppard. I walked in to the tiny takeout spot around 7:30pm which is late i guess because they didnt have much on their hot table. Just 2 rice dishes and some kind of dark murky spinach looking thing and some other vegetable stew that i couldnt tell what it was. I decided to get the chicken breast on rice. An older gentelman manned the grill while a woman was at the front. The woman was more interested in talking to a Persian couple than serving me and another Persian woman. My ready order sat on the counter until the other Persian woman said something to the woman. The communication between the front and back was confused and lacking. When i got home to eat it the rice was dry cold and not that interesting even with things in it. The chicken which was seasoned in yellow seasoning was pretty good though. It is nowhere close to the selection of the Korak supermarket near yonge and steeles . starvingfoodie.blogspot.com
Big Dump, Scumbag Workers. This place is a dump! Don’t ever go there!! The food is cheap but the workers are scumbags! I asked for extra butter and spice and they scowled and complained and gave me one extra tub of butter and NO extra spice! I went a few times because I liked the food but I’m never going back again! These people are DIRT!
