2017/02/03The large garbage bins right in front of the restaurant were a bit of a turn off, but once I got inside the front door everything got much better. Huh Ga Ne is a medium sized Korean restaurant with a soaring ceiling, and two seating styles. On one half are typical table and chair arrangements. On the other half are low tables, no chairs, and no shoes allowed. My guess is that this would be more traditional seating. When I was there at lunchtime, the table and chair section was mostly occupied, and the low table section only had a couple of tables used. While some Korean restaurants have built in table BBQ’s, this restaurant had portable BBQ’s, and a couple of tables were using them. Shortly after being seated, a server brought the menu and a cup of hot tea in a stainless steel cup. The cup was really good at keeping the tea hot. I spent a couple of minutes looking over the menu, and eventually chose the Chicken Gaseu ($13). The menu described it as a deep fried chicken cutlet with huhGaNe sauce and salad. Soon after I placed the order the server brought seven small dishes with Korean appetizers, including kimchi, bean sprouts, seaweed, pickled radish, and more. A very nice mixture of flavours and textures. Then came my main dish, which was huge. The breaded chicken was very much like chicken schnitzel; pounded thin and deep fried. It was covered in sauce, which was sweet, sour, and fruity. There was also a large portion of sticky rice that had a purplish colour. A guess on my part that the colour came from purple cabbage. There was also some coleslaw. I was stuffed and satisfied.

They have 2 sitting areas with one where you sit on a wooden floor (shoes off) and a normal table and chairs area. Every table pretty much had a table cooking pot. We has the bulgogi table cooking special that came with a seafood tofu soup. We also tried their pork bone soup. The seafood tofu soup was delicious! The bulgogi was very tender and tasty. The pork bone soup was not the greatest. Overall, would definitely come back.
