This is my husband and mine’s go-to in Oshawa for a nice, Italian meal. Their wood over pizzas are amazing, their pastas delicious, and their wine list is stellar. The service is impeccable, and except for the abundance of shade in the evening their patio is quite nice. We usually opt for the calamari (delicious), the abundant oil-and-bread at the table, an excellent bottle of Nero, and tiramisu. I’m a fan of any of their pastas made with artichoke, and he likes their hot and spicy pizza menu. Also worth noting: we’ve sat just the two of us, and with a table of 16, and service was not compromised by number of patrons. This restaurant, and the patio, are wheelchair accessible.

Avanti Trattorias proprietors have created a rustic Italian eatery worth crossing the mean streets of Oshawa to stamp your passport for. Sitting on the rim of an active King Street East, Avanti opts for quality cheeses and tomatoes over the traditional stream of pies, flour and chefs whites.Complimentary baskets of bread and peppery olive oil drizzled with vinegar started the evening off, prepping our palettes for our quartet of appetizers and a night of carefully chosen flavours and ingredients laboriously selected and fresh. A satisfying arrangement of prosciutto, salami, provolone, capicollo, artichoke and olives ($9.75) adorned our plates and lined our bellies while we nibbled on caprese salad ($10.75) with the perfect balsamic reduction and knocked back Aranciata sodas ($3.25).The Arrabiatta pizza ($14.95) arrived en masse with distinctive leopard-spot char and blistered at the edges, delicious fresh herb and chilli oil and topped with hot peppers, spicy sopressata, onions, olives, mozzarella and tomato sauce. The crisp, toothsome texture of the crust complimented the garnishes and allowed the punch of the citrus-infused olives and the sweetness of the sauce to remain. The house special was a hearty cheese tortellini with chicken, pancetta, red onion, baby spinach, arrabiata and parmesan. A good tortellini is tender and light, not thick and doughy Avanti presents a mouth-watering fusion of Italian authenticity and diner recognition, creating a pasta dish worthy of the name. Our taste test finale would amaze, well balanced desserts that felt overwhelmingly light and just sweet enough. Tiramisu ($6.75), a combination of coffee and mascarpone cream with ladyfingers, followed closely by profiteroles ($8.25), cream puffs filled with Chantilly cream and rolled in chocolate. Date night, late night or business social Avanti is appropriate, always. The homely air and warm staff are the cherries on top of the gratifying meals and assortment of tangy, tasty beverages. thebigeatontario.com

Nice meal. Our family was in Oshawa for the weekend and not knowing the area, we decided to try Avanti Trattoria. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was inviting. The pasta dishes were flavorful. The portions could have been a little larger. We enjoyed the Tartufo. We enjoyed a nice meal and would return in the future.

Better Food at Home!. When I go out to eat pasta at an Italian specialty restauraunt, I expect homemade pasta. This stuff was straight out of the bag and smothered in cream to make it edible. For $20 it was a huge disappointment. Selection of non-alchoholic drinks was very limited. Come on people, there is so much great Italian food and drink that you can offer to Oshawa. Make it special! Not just OK!

Big Rip Off. I went with this place with my girlfriend back a week ago didn’t really feel like driving to an authentic italian restaurant we always go to in markham so we decided to go here. We looked at the menu and seen the prices were outrageous, but we went ahead and order a pizza, it tasted bland, not any sauce on it at all. I know i can get a good pizza buffet which the pizza is better quality for the same price in Markham. I don’t recommend anyone going here unless you dislike sauce on your pizza.

Great…. if you like bland, flavourless, expensive pizza…. To Whom it May Concern,My wife and I moved to Oshawa from downtown Toronto last year.Last week, I made the mistake of purchasing two pizzas ( take-out ) from your restaurant.A big mistake. We ordered the Quattro Formaggi and Metriciana. Pizza size was tiny for the price. Both items were flavourless and expensive. The sauce appeared to be non-existant. The dough was bland. The toppings were skimpy.I’ve travelled the world..including Italy, and can honestly say your pizza was among the worst I’ve ever eaten. I’ve had tastier frozen pizza!

Meh. Too expensive for a bland, small portion. Packed with family. Not fancy in the least for it’s price.
