One of our favourites, the Curry Club is hands-down the best indian place we’ve found in the Oshawa area.I’ll warn you – this isn’t somewhere to go for a romantic night out. You enter the restaurant like you’re entering someone’s home – to the front is a coke fridge and the ordering counter and past there you can look right into the kitchen. It’s like houses built in the 1930s. To your left is the dining room – and it’s not much. Often, there’s a man having a coffee and maybe having a snooze or reading the paper – he doesn’t stay long, but he’s there a lot. At another table, children do their homework or some sort of craft. They are well behaved and un-obtrusive, but this is a family place with some tables set up as a consideration to those who don’t want to take out or have it delivered.I usually do take out. Butter chicken, beef vindaloo, and karahi ghost are our favourites. EVERYTHING is good, and prepared well and served hot. I’ve never been kept waiting and always enjoy popping in, especially in winter, for my dinner. When I do have it delivered, they are there on time and quite friendly and helpful at the door. This is the best place for Indian food, and the price is much less than I expect, every time.
Good South Asian Food in Oshawa. Curry Club is a good restaurant. The owner is a very nice guy. The prices are very good for food that is made with such care. It’s cheaper than a pile of crap from a chain! If you are a fan of Indian food then Curry Club is well worth your patronage. You can get better Indian in Toronto, but for Oshawa this is good, and for the price it’s great.
Great Food!. This is our go-to Indian food restaurant for takeout and delivery and they’ve never done us wrong. The food is amazing, the people working are fantastic and while the decor may need updating the restaurant is by no means dirty. The food tastes like REAL Indian food and is not the manga-cake version of Indian food often peddled elsewhere. It’s fresh, it’s delicious and it is so surprising to find it in downtown Oshawa and that they deliver to Courtice/Hampton!
RUN…DON’T WALK…AWAY!. We read some of the previous reviews before going to this place (notice how I did not call it a restaurant) because of the mixed reviews. All we can say is THE WORST FOOD AND SERVICE. Ordered butter chicken, rice and naan bread x 3 (apparently the house speciality). While we waited for our food we began getting nervous when we looked around and noted that the other two tables were not eating Indian dishes—hamburgers and fries at one and only coffee and a paper at the other. The restaurant itself was not clean; extremely run down and the biggest red flag was that the place was almost DEAD on a Saturday evening.Paper napkins and cutlery were tossed haphazardly on the table and three mixed match beer glasses containing water were also plopped down in front of us. From our table we had a side view of the kitchen which was poorly lit with the constant sound of a microwave running. When the owner brought us our food the three of us were in shock—the naan bread was a single greek style pita cut into four wedges and grilled with butter, the rice was soggy and cold (clearly had been microwaved) and the butter chicken was NOT butter chicken! We were plated with dark meat bone in tandoori chicken (mainly wings) pieces tossed in what could have easily been something concocted from a jar of PATAK’S curry paste thickened with cornstarch. No tomato or cream and no hope for anything fresh and leafy— the curry flavouring was not even familiar to butter chicken more of a lamb madras style with heavy salting. It was so bad that the three of us ate only some of the rice and the bagged naan bread and at this point we were a bit concerned that we might actually get sick from this place. When paying for the meal (which looking back now, we should have refused but we truly were in total shock about this experience) we told the owner the meal was absolutely horrible—he was belligerent stating he has been in business for twenty years and then asked us what was wrong with our butter chicken. Aside from listing the lack of expected ingredients we left it at that and will chalk it up to a very bad dining experience. Really, this place is very, very bad and I find it unbelievable that the good reviews we read before going are actually real. We highly recommend that you forgo the adventure and heed our advice—save your money and go to a reputable Indian Restaurant at home—-save the tourist curiosity for your next trip and base it on a first hand recommendation from a friend! Forty bucks plus a trip to subway later—not the Saturday evening out we had hoped for. This place will leave a bad,bad taste in your mouth so avoid at all costs.OSHAWA if you are going to play host to visitors and travellers clean up your downtown and help the weary travellers with recommended eats and places to go!
Chicken Tikka Marsala & Lamb Vindaloo weren’t even edible! Hands down, worst curry take out ever.
Decor could definitely use updating, but the food is good and the staff is friendly.
Went here for the first time yesterday and was very happy afterwards. The food was delicious and the portions were generous, also the price was reasonable and the staff were friendly. Overall good experience and will be going there again
