I feel bad for those who have tried their poor attempt at doubles and have been completely turned off by the dish altogether. Nothing close to Caribbean cuisine. Better off spending the gas money going to Toronto instead.

Just bad. I wish it weren’t but it is. My time living in Oshawa I have seen two better caribbean food places go out of business and another that was on par with Yolas. I am sorry to say but the quality of food here is quite bad. I am not sure if this was a ‘retirement’ project or what but if it is, the owners really need to re-evaluate the quality of this restaurant. I would say the first change that needs to be made is to hire a new chef. I assume the owner is the current chef and to be honest it is simply lack luster. The food kind of lacks in spice and could really use some more seasoning..but its O-K. The worst was that the rice was hard from sitting in a hotplate all day and the chicken was super salty and falling apart (again because of sitting in a hotplate all day. Nothing was fresh. I’ve gone once to this place, found it lacking, went again a year or two later (a couple weeks ago) to give it another chance. Honestly, I can make better jerk chicken by buying marinade. I am not sure what they are trying to accomplish with this place but the owners need to start providing hot, fresh, and exciting meals that are made with passion — not mass produced, and then ditched in a hot plate to be served out for the rest of the day by their daughter. There was a jamaican place up the street..awful decor, and mediocre service.. but the food was delicious and now they have gone out business. Raise your standards customers, Beryls has awful service but the food is made by people who know their craft and are not just doing it as a hobby.
Microwaved patties. I placed an order for pick up for 8 beef patties, it wasn’t ready my wife had to wait 15 minutes and she MICROWAVED FROZEN BEEF PATTIES, same ones you can find in any grocery store, just pathetic
This place is soooo amazing! I just love their roti. They have the best jerk chicken roti I have ever tasted
Owners in over their heads.. If you want authentic and fresh Caribbean eats in downtown Oshawa — there are better options.I only ordered doubles here. The owner reheated the chickpea filling in the microwave. Also, he also premakes the dough/bara. The bara is the worst ive ever tasted. He microwaved that too and just assembled the doubles to order.Doesn’t he know that the double needs to be made fresh? The bara was also HEAVILY salted and it seemed he just threw various spices in. The channa filling itself was also very tasteless. There was no chutney or hot sauce inside — none was offered either. As for the decor… I think there is some cleanliness issues here. The garbage can was surrounded by glass bottles just lying on the floor. Red carpet for ants anyone? I think the older owners are in over their heads to be honest. I like Dru Pati’s more than this place. If in downtown Oshawa, for better jerk and Carib items, head to Beryl’s one street south.
