Bread sub-par. I had heard good things about Bread and Roses, so decided to stop by for some fresh bread. I got the Oat Bran and a Sourdough Bagette with cracked pepper + sea salt (they didn’t seem to have plain). The Oat Bran was the better of the two flavour-wise with a nice soft texture, but nothing to rave about and was greasy on the outside. The Sourdough had a good chewy texture, but was very bland with no sourdough qualities and was very greasy on the outside. Maybe their sweets are better, but I will not be going back for bread when I can make better at home and buy far better elsewhere in the city.
Choices Galore! and Much Much More!. I love my baked goods, and when coming into the new Bread and Roses location, the smells are always mouth watering. The baked goods are delicious, the shelves are fully stocked 24/7 with breads, cookies, tarts, muffins, cakes etc. They have recently tried venturing in pizza’s, soups and sandwiches, but I have not tried them. My absolute favourites are the oatmeal-raisin cookies, they are big, just enough sweetness and they never disappoint. They have the ingredient lists posted right under the labels, the quality of the goods used truly shines in the taste and texture of the baked treats. Also, for the health concious, they supply an abundant amount of vegan, gluten and dairy free options. There’s always choices at the bakery!
Since moving to their new location, their products may be nicer, but their attitudes and staffing have really sunk. Hiring people who are actually familiar with what it is they’re selling would probably be helpful. As well as not being completely rude to your customers.05 Aug, 2013Best sales staff in the city. Some of the treats are a tad too sweet for my taste, but their vegi pate sandwich can’t be beat. They’ve been a favorite spot of mine for years now.
A totally new place… This place had gone way downhill when it was still on Beechwood, but since moving to the new location it seems to have re-invented itself (and likely gotten new recipes, staff, or both).Good treats. The blueberry scones were awesome, and humongous. Cute little patio out front, too.
My wife and I went there on a hot day. The food was not covered and the front door was propped open. We decided not to order because of the flys landing on all the baked goods. Might go back if they invest in a screen door.
Good variety of treats.. Lots of great vegan and non-vegan treats. The vegan chocolate peanut butter squares never disappoint.
