I did not enjoy my experience at Mena. The food is overpriced and the portions are the smallest I have ever had. I took the 7 course menu and walked out of there starving. I don’t know who wrote approx $80 for 2 people in the description above but they were way off. My bill was $300 for my wife and I and that was with a few drinks. Didn’t even take the wine pairing. I will never return there. There is no value for your $$$. If you like to eat, not the place for you. Every single one of my meals were vegetables, i had a tiny piece of quail for my last course. I couldn’t care less about how fancy my plate looks when it shows up to the table, I’m there to eat!!!
Excellent service. Knowledgeable sommelier. Unique and interesting perspective – select the number of courses you want, and advise of any allergies or dislikes from a list of 30 ingredients and flavors. The chef does the rest! The wine pairings were some of the best I’ve had. A great evening!
We had a wonderful meal of the 5-course tasting menu — the perfect size. We ordered a beer with it, and it felt as if the chef matched the mail to the beer. We will be back! Lots of individual attention.
Pricey. I read the menu on-line and was quite excited. My dining companion and I split the foie gras appetizer. I found the foie gras delicious and enjoyed the pairing wth the rhubarb but, we both found the toasted brioche unpleasant. I would have preferred proper bread or something crisp. The brioche was neither. My companion had the gnocchi. If I had ordered it I would have sent it back. It was sticky and glutenous and unpleasant. I had the lamb which was tasty albeit a bit salty. I was disappointed that there were no sides to speak of with the lamb. Both of our desserts were disappointing. My companion had the carrot cake which I didn’t mind but, she felt like they’d forgotten the leavening. I had the chocolate dessert. It was ok but, cloying. We both found the service adequate however did not care for the way the server waved her hand over our food as she described it. In general, neither of us care of this table side theatre as we’d both read the menu and understood the descriptions therein. The decor was pleasant but the music was weirdly eclectic.
MeNa Review. Had high expectations for MeNa after speaking to friends. Unfortauntely it didn’t live up to the hype. The serving staff were wonderful however the food was only mediocre. While the menu included many items that would typically be crowd pleasers (beef, scallops, tartare), flavour was lacking. Food aside, the wine menu was great. We’d go elsewhere before going back.
We have a winner. Love love love this restaurantthe tasting menu is FABULOUSa surprise in every bite staff are laid-back, but remain professionalrestaurant dcor is quite bland…but doesn’t really matter because the food is so darn yumLOVE LOVE LOVEI knew there was something to this jewel on Preston – hoping you guys make it in the top restaurant in the en-route Magazine again next year
Creative and Fun. Great creative food and excellent wine list. Give it up to the house… Go for a multi-course tasting menu and ask the sommelier to pick wine for each course. Awesome… The place is run by a bunch of young passionate guys who clearly love the trade. Portions are small, but delicious and fun. The idea is to run the gamut and try a bunch of things. One of the best new places to eat in Ottawa over the last few years.
