I am always curious to try out new local shops in an effort to support individual and family-ran businesses. Pierogies are perhaps one of my very favourite foods and I was curious to see if this local shop could measure up to the many other local shops Ive supported in the past. Sadly, this shop did not measure up to my past experiences and expectations. Similar to the other feedback that has been provided here, the food is tiny, overpriced and bland. I bought two 1 lb mini pierogies at 9,99$/bag (they only had another size and they were 16$/dozen)! I bought the potato and cheese flavour and the potato and bacon flavour. Upon opening the bag, I was dismayed to see that the flavour and cooking instructions were actually in contact with the frozen food. Such an unsanitary way to package food was my first red flag. I had to scrape off the label that had stuck to the pierogies and when that didnt work, I had to rinse them under warm water to get the rest of the paper label off. I then boiled them & pan fried them with onions hoping for a decent result. The pierogies stuck to each other in a bunch (note: this could be a result of my cooking technique – I can take partial responsibility here). Upon taking the first bite, it was apparent that high quality ingredients had not been used or a very limited amount had been used. The pierogies were bland, some hadnt been properly stuffed and all I had was a mouthful of cooked dough. In those that did have potato, the cheese was unnoticeable. Ive had pierogies that were bursting with flavour (such as those you can buy in the frozen food section in grocery stores for 3-5$/box and you usually have a fair amount). I will return to buying the grocery store frozen pierogies and cannot consciously recommend this store & the pierogies, even though the customer service was good and the person helping me was friendly.
Way too expensive… 1.50 for each perogie, which they microwave right in front of you!! Even costs more for sour cream. Perogies were very dry, nearly inedible. Staff was rude. Will not be returning.
Just like grama used to make. Although this place seems a bit pricy, it is worth every penny! The food tastes real and reminds me of my grama’s cooking back home. It’s also nice to know that I am supporting a local family business.
Good perogies but pricey (1.50$ each for cooked, 1$ frozen)The real reason to go is the potato salad. By far the best potato salad I’ve ever had.
Overpriced. I love perogies but these are moderate at best. Then add the price which was $11 for 6 perogies plus $1 for sour cream. It’s just too expensive for what you get.
Bliny (crepes with ground meat) are awesome. Perogies are becoming more commonplace, but this little take-out business (it has one table for three customers to dine-in) offers other Ukrainian/ Eastern European fare like crepes with cottage cheese, and my favourite – the bliny (crepes with ground meat). Bliny strike a nice combination between the sweetness of crepes and the saltiness of ground pork or beef (your choice).Frozen perogies, bliny, and other items are for sale as well.
