I would not recommend this spot because I got food poisoning here! I just had rice, salad and sir fried veggies… just wanted to send out a warning! I was violently sick and hopefully this post can warn others!

This place is now called Pho Phu Chau. I only had the pho so it’s hard for me to review but here’s what I have to say: the broth was really tasty, the choice of ingredients for the pho are somewhat limited (no porc, no veggies), the garnishes were plentiful (basil, lime, bean sprouts, etc. – but no hot peppers). There was one slice of regular onion floating in the bowl. Overall, the broth was delicious but the rest was subpar.

Why even affiliate this place with 1 and 2? It’s an atrocity. No variety, the shrimp spring rolls were all filler, no shrimp. Just a lame fast food version of the others. 1 and 2 are not even the same level, and are being diminished in rep by being associated with 3. Sorry to be so honest.

Pho Bo Ga (#3!!!) – Nah!. The spread of sub-mediocre Pho Bo places in Ottawa continues to annoy me. Their raison d’etre dish isn’t an overly complex offering so should be able to be pulled off with good results provided a decent and equal amount of attention is given to quality of ingredients, seasoning and execution (especially when its essentially the only thing on the menu!). However the PBG3 April 24-2013 (lunchtime) broth was lacking – thin flavour, a bit on the sour side and no aroma. The beef portion, though sliced better/thinner than in some terrible suburban strip mall Pho Bo slop-joints, was on the skimpy side. Noodles were OK. Sliced green onion tossed on top was a bit heretical to me, and no doubt meant to mask flavour deficiencies and the lack of white onion. The sprouts, culantro and basil side veg was ample but of just passable – almost green bin pickup day quality, and lacked any hot peppers. The most disturbing, and telling part – and something I’ve never experienced before – was the heavily watered down table hot sauce and hoisin squeezers. Having resolved to have to doctor up the disappointing broth, adding the usual carefully-spurted 1/3 teaspoon of hot sauce usually required to goose the flavour didn’t even register. I had to fire-hose it in. If this place is cutting their Rooster sauce (with what?), you can imagine what unholy cheap-ass short cuts they are routinely taking in the kitchen with their Pho broth. The pork spring rolls on the side actually tasted OK doused in the fish sauce, but the rice wrapper was a bit on the overcooked and heavy/monolithic side. Overall meal was still better than some of the suburban Pho-aBOmination places, but have to recommend an automatic skip just because of the hot sauce thing. Unforgivable. Some Ottawa Pho places are still finding new ways to disappoint – adding yet another franchise location on the same street does not better Pho make. One Ga is probably more than they can handle, and they are maxing the margins on everything at this profit-milking location +++ As a followup, my usually teflon-coated stomach was actually troubling me after this visit to the ‘Ga 3.

Great food and good service. We really like this place. The deep fried wontons are good, and nothing. Beats the P47.

This is going to sound silly but although I like it and the soup, it’s just a notch less than Pho Bo Ga 2 … which is my favourite.

Been having pho for five years and keep coming back here. Great pho, nice people and open really late.
