Somehow I didn’t realize I was working three blocks from this place until a friend recommended it to me a few weeks ago. I’ve been twice since then and will be a weekly customer (at least) for the rest of my time here. The sandwich ingredients are absolutely top-notch: fresh tomatoes, cured meats, incredible parmesan, and the perfect combination of Italian herbs and spices. Hands-down best sandwich in Ottawa. Drop whatever you’re doing and go.
This is my new favourite sandwich shop in Little Italy. The owner/chef/server/bartender serves up an ever changing menu of delicious sandwiches made to order. He made me a Bielti, an Italian twist on a BLT. Phenomenal! The smoked and cures bacon imported from Italy was some of the best swine I’ve tasted. Fresh tomatoes from the garden were served ripe and in season, tossed with olive oil, oregano, and green onions. My friend had the house made sausage and loved it. Finish off with espresso and head back to work satisfied.
A awesome, authentic little Italian cafe. Nothing is rushed here. Genio, the owner, serves only quality ingredients in his sandwiches. This guy is passionate about food and won’t serve anything that doesn’t meet his standards. He’ll regularly talk about the food his mother used to make him, and if his food doesn’t match what he used to get in his childhood, he won’t serve it. The atmosphere is casual and friendly. Genio will be up for a chat anytime, or will leave you alone, if you’re just looking for some quiet time. Not just the best sandwiches in town, also the best intimate little cafe in town.
Superior quality of all sandwich ingredients. I recently ate a meatball sandwich at Sanguiccio’s. As I opened it to have a look at its ingredients, (3 meatballs, a sprinkling of cheese, tomato slices),I noted smoke arising from the meatballs gently nestled into a very good, long, crusty roll which had been heated to perfection. I enjoyed this hot sandwich: the bread remained crispy to the last bite and the sandwich remained hot to the last bite as well. good job. Request a small pot of the owner’s hot sauce which only makes the sandwich hotter. A few drops of it suffice.
Now THAT’s a sandwich. Love their sandwiches, these are the definition of gourmet sandwich, individually prepared with love and attention. Juicy, and bursting with flavor. They are all great but the stewed Beef Spezzatino has a special plate in my heartThe only thing about this place is that you have to find out which sandwiches are available that day by checking his twitter/website, and the one you might want isnt available that day. Also dont expect to get your sandwich quickly, especially if there are other customers waitied for theirs. Maybe calling ahead is a good idea.
Sandwiches. Extremely high quality food for a small price, always very pleased.
