The owner was ride and blatantly homophobic. We left just after ordering because we were so astonished and insulted.

Disappointed – unacceptable rudeness from proprietor. I’ve been coming to this charming place for years and unfortunately after today’s experience, I may not be back. There are so many things to love about this place. It’s a busy wee place in a beloved part of Peterborough with a delicious daily breakfast special that has, in my opinion, some of the best homefries in the city. It’s old-fashioned charm and quirky dynamics of the family who own and run the place have always made it a fun place to have breakfast. It’s reasonably priced and the service is decent, (if somewhat abrupt- again, part of the ‘charm’ of the place). However, today the proprietor who has in the past been quite friendly to me, joked around with me, etc. made two comments that really soured my experience. One was a criticism of my ordering dry toast (yet at the same time ordering peameal) – as if this was completely ridiculous and incomprehensible to him. I found this a bit beyond his usual abrupt manner but was willing to let it go. However, a couple minutes before my friend and I had finished our breakfast, he came over, tapped our table loudly, and pointed at a woman standing at the door and indicated that we needed to get a move on: that she was waiting for a table. This was appallingly rude: we were not loitering, we hadn’t even finished our meal! He then proceeded to harass another table with the comment: ‘you’re still here?! [points to the woman at the front] She’s waiting for a table].’ This is no way to treat customers in the service industry, especially when you have a small business in a mid-sized city where word of mouth travels fast. Despite my love of the place, and it’s food, I won’t likely be back. There are plenty of other fantastic, locally-owned breakfast joints in town where customers are treated with respect.

I love this place! People are so friendly, and the breakfast is delicious! Hashbrowns are amazing, nice herbs on them. Is definitely a favourite!

Great little breakfast spot!. Based on reviews, we decided to give this place a shot. Glad we did. If you like breakfast the old fashioned way, this is the place. Totally not pretentious, but what they do, they do right. Great sense of humour, perfect portions, etc. Try the special with back bacon. Be aware that they only take cash, but there is a bank machine on the corner. We’ll be back.

Breakfast. We went for breakfast this morning on our first morning in town… and as always, it was perfectly cooked with truly the most amazing home fries, and the most enjoyable experience thanks to the staff! Yummo.24 Apr, 2011Best Brekkie Ever. We used to frequent this place for breakfast, just down the road from the in-laws, when we lived in Canada, and it was a winner EVERY TIME. The home fries are incredible, the atmosphere is fantastic, and the owners/staff are wonderful. I love everything about this place and now we are heading back for a visit, cannot wait to enjoy several more bacon and egg breakfasts again!
